About the role

Position Description:

The Waste Processing Technician II is responsible for the sorting and handling of hazardous and nonhazardous waste products to ensure proper identification, treatment and processing of waste in the facility. Additionally, they are responsible for the proper loading and unloading of vehicles including vacuum trucks and tankers. They will coordinate sampling and analysis to determine the correct course of treatment for hazardous waste as prescribed by standard procedures and operational permits. The Waste Processing Technician II will treat waste by adding materials necessary to alter the chemical nature of solid and liquid waste in a manner that is safe and secure at all times. They will maintain all necessary records to support safe and compliant operations. They will also ensure that strict operating procedures and safety standards are followed at all times.

Key Job Activities:

  • Perform Hazardous and nonhazardous waste treatment methods and processes
  • Perform or coordinate sampling, lab analysis and data-entry
  • Loading and unloading hazardous and non-hazardous waste from van trailers, tankers, totes, vacuum trucks
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationship with other departments and teams to determine treatment courses for all waste.
  • Forklift and other heavy equipment operation
  • Operating and maintaining plant equipment
  • Sorting, Dumping and Packing of waste items by hazardous and non-hazardous categories.
  • Entering and tracking material processing data
  • Completion of production reports
  • Other tasks as required

Key Competencies:

  • Degree or diploma in Chemistry, environmental sciences, waste management or related studies is preferred.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience in related field
  • Knowledge of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods preferred.
  • Knowledge of provincial, Canadian and US Hazardous waste regulations preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to positively execute the services of the business.
  • Demonstrates the ability to make sound decisions after considering all facts, potential risks, customer needs, and alternative solutions when dealing with all types of issues.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a safe, responsible and ethical manner either alone or under direct supervision.
