At Summit Valve your hard work does not go unnoticed. We are a Western Canadian based distributor of valves, actuators, and instrumentation products. We need an exceptional Warehouse Technician (Forklift Operator, Shipper/Receiver) to join our team.
What does this mean?
In this role, the warehouse technician will be responsible for a range of warehouse duties including but not limited to receiving, inspecting product, operating forklift, crane rigging and operation, product assembly, and shipping. Summit Valve’s policies and procedures provide the framework to execute the required tasks. The Warehouse team is the last check before the product is sent to the customer; high care and attention to detail is necessary. The warehouse team must ensure safety is of the utmost importance. The team is responsible for ensuring customer requirements are met by following the shipping and receiving processes in compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and Health and Safety programs.
This role is responsible for product at the Alberta divisions; which may include product from/for Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and other companies under Carmela Industries.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Perform regular assessments on incoming materials from vendors and outgoing product for shipping.
- Bring concerns to the Warehouse Manager for action.
- Work closely with the Warehouse Manager to identify problem areas and develop solutions.
- Inspect products in the warehouse for accuracy or damage, supporting documentation (MTR’s, serial numbers, etc.), functionality.
- Forklift daily inspection.
- Measure product dimensions, assist with packing, and compare final product to specifications as required.
- Work with Warehouse Manager and colleagues to meet turnaround timelines.
- Manage and organize supporting documentation as necessary.
- Take pictures of products and upload them into the appropriate software systems.
- Perform cycle counting.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Greet and assist delivery representatives and customers.
- Equipment operation.
- Provide redundancy; assist with either Shipping and Receiving tasks as required.
- Participate in Carmela Team Building events.
- Environment: Warehouse environment. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, oils, and environmental elements are expected. Mostly indoors, with brief outdoor work (Snow shovelling, weed trimming).
Skills and Abilities
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate order picking, packing, and inventory handling.
- Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and verifying shipments.
- Good communication skills to follow instructions and work effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Ability to work independently and stay productive.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to help others and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Basic computer or scanner skills are an asset for inventory tracking and order processing.
- Punctual and reliable, with a strong work ethic and commitment to safety.
- Physical requirements: Lifting or moving up to 50-lb, standing for long periods of time, use of step ladders, ability to bend and contort to read hard-to-access labels, good eyesight.
The successful candidate should have:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) required.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, shipping/receiving, or general labor role is an asset but not required— we provide on-the-job training.
- Forklift Operator Certification is a plus, but not required.
- Familiarity with basic warehouse tools and equipment (e.g., pallet jacks, forklifts) is considered an asset.
