Job Title: Visitor & Retail Experience Associate (Chinatown Storytelling Centre & Foo Hung Curios)
Position Type: Full-time, in-person (Wednesday to Sunday, 9:15am–5:15pm)
Salary: $40,000-$45,000/year
Are you passionate about culture, community, and creating memorable experiences? We’re looking for a friendly and dynamic Visitor & Retail Experience Associate to join our team at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre and Foo Hung Curios.
In this dynamic, front-facing role, you’ll be the first point of contact for visitors to the Chinatown Storytelling Centre: greeting guests, handling ticketing and admissions, and sharing helpful information about our exhibitions and programs to ensure a welcoming and enriching visitor experience.
You’ll also play a key role in the daily operations of Foo Hung Curios, our thoughtfully curated gift shop that celebrates Asian heritage through art, stationery, home goods, and more. From assisting customers and processing POS transactions to assisting the store manager, you’ll help connect people with meaningful objects and stories.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys engaging with people, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about cultural heritage and community building.
Visitor Experience:
- Greet and assist visitors at the Chinatown Storytelling Centre and Foo Hung Curios.
- Manage daily admissions, memberships, and check-ins for exhibitions, group bookings, and special events.
- Provide accurate and engaging information about exhibitions, programs, and the Storytelling Centre’s mission.
Retail Operations:
- Handle retail transactions in-store and online with care and accuracy.
- Deliver friendly, informed customer service that connects guests to the shop’s cultural and artistic offerings.
- Receive and unpack shipments; restock, label, and merchandise products thoughtfully.
- Support the Store Manager with administrative duties and daily operations.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- You’re passionate about community building and long-term social change.
- You have excellent communication and customer service skills.
- You're detail-oriented, organized, and able to juggle multiple tasks with ease.
- You bring previous experience in retail, hospitality, museums, or cultural spaces.
- You’re enthusiastic about Chinese Canadian culture and community storytelling.
