Position Details
The University of Lethbridge is a comprehensive research-intensive university founded on the principles of liberal education where inspired scholars integrate research and creative activity with learning and teaching. The University Library seeks a user-centred, innovative, team-oriented Librarian for a tenure-track position, to start January 1, 2026 (but a start date as early as November 1, 2025 is possible). Reporting to the University Librarian and working collaboratively with colleagues, the successful candidate will be responsible for the management and operation of the University Archives, as well as performing subject liaison activities.
The University Archives, with a staff of two, has a collection of over 53 fonds, spanning 425 linear metres in a variety of physical formats that reflect the teaching, research, and service conducted at the University of Lethbridge. In the University Archives, the successful candidate will:
- play a primary role in strategic and operational planning of archival workflows, for both physical and digital archives
- supervise technical staff working in the Archives
- provide reference support to users of the Archives
- work collaboratively with other units at the University, including Records Management, to develop and maintain records management and preservation policies.
Subject liaison work includes managing subject collections and subject funds, maintaining regular communication with departmental representatives about important library developments, providing reference service to students and academic staff members, and providing information literacy instruction as requested. While liaison librarians’ experience and interests are considered in the assignment of subject areas, it is expected that the successful candidate will work with the Dhillon School of Business. Familiarity with relevant disciplines and resources will be considered an asset.
The position may also include committee work in such areas as collection development, scholarly communications, public services, assessment, and outreach, as well as coverage for other librarians on leave as needed. Joining the Library’s team will present the successful candidate with opportunities for professional growth in a wide range of possible assignments.
Professional librarians at the University of Lethbridge have academic staff status and are expected to engage in research and service activities and remain professionally active. Rank is dependent on qualifications and experience.

The search committee will be looking for the following:
Education/Experience:
- Master’s degree in Library Science (ALA accredited or equivalent)
- Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with best practices and standards related to archival records, digitization, and preservation (e.g., AtoM, Archivematica, RAD, EAD, Dublin Core, etc.)
- An understanding of the academic environment and current issues and trends in post-secondary education
- Ability to work as an effective liaison librarian
- Experience in supervision of staff members
Communication:
- Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective and collegial working relationships with students and staff members
- Excellent presentation, teaching, and communication skills
Team/Work Style:
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and to collaborate effectively with staff at all levels and with people of diverse backgrounds as part of a collegial team
- Flexibility, innovation, and the ability to meet the challenges of rapid changes in higher education and to thrive in a dynamic and collaborative environment
- A demonstrated commitment to responsive, user-centred, and quality services that benefit a diverse community of users
Organizational/analytical/problem solving skills:
- Ability to successfully manage a variety of simultaneous tasks in contexts that may involve competing priorities and changing circumstances
- Superior organizational skills and the ability to effectively develop and lead projects within a collaborative environment
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative data
- Technical aptitude and an interest in using technology to improve service in the Library and Archives
