Position Summary:
The Unit Attendant (UA) provides support services to the nursing staff by ensuring all areas are stocked and maintained with appropriate supplies and equipment, ordering supplies, and transporting supplies, equipment and patients both within the department and hospital wide, in a timely manner to accommodate efficient patient flow. The UA assists with the turnover, cleaning and set up of patient rooms.
The Unit Attendant in an inpatient department provides additional support by assisting the nurses with patient care which may include feeding, responding to call bells, supervising patients ambulating to the bathroom etc. and transport of patients.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of WHMIS, Emergency Codes and Privacy Legislation
- Completion or willingness to complete the Smart Moves Program and Best Practices for Environmental Cleaning eLearning Course
- Experience working in a busy hospital environment and with following universal precautions
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work and exercise judgement independently, as well as to take direction and work collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
- Physically capable of maneuvering and pushing stretchers with patients
- Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with patients, families, colleagues and physicians
- Basic computer skills required for online supplies ordering, checking work email etc.
