Description
Terrain Park Forepersons provide an outstanding experience for guests by building, operating, and maintaining progressive terrain parks at the Ski Area. This role focuses on public safety, reducing risks associated with features, and on creating experiences that favor all ability levels. Terrain Park Forepersons assist and report to the Terrain Park Supervisors, to the Slopes Supervisor, and work closely with the entire Mountain Operations department.
Job Functions
Assisting with, and at times overseeing, the day-to-day operations of the Terrain Parks department, providing a safe and enjoyable work environment.
Travelling safely and professionally on skis or snowboard to perform tasks, driving snowmobiles and riding chairlifts at times with tools/equipment, working a physically demanding role in a challenging, remote, alpine environment.
Providing input on terrain park builds, designs, and layout. Helping to train other department members.
Maintaining snow fencing, signage, and other identifiers (including adherence to current sponsorship agreements and promotional partnerships) within parks, focusing on risk management, brand exposure, and employee safety.
Monitoring run signs, trail signs, closures, and other equipment placed throughout terrain parks, ensuring conformance to industry standards and current CWSAA terrain park guidelines, while ensuring nothing presents a public safety hazard and having a friendly Terrain Park Crew presence.
Continuous monitoring and maintaining of park features via riding and testing them for safety (i.e., changing weather conditions, frequency of use, level of difficulty). Testing is at the discretion of the Terrain Park Supervisor(s).
Communicating effectively via radio.
Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:
- Documenting and completing daily checks, rosters, and grooming reports
- Timely and accurate incident reporting and deficiencies reporting to appropriate departments/personnel.
Experience/Requirements
- Must be outgoing and positive, with a friendly attitude towards coworkers and the public.
- Minimum one (1) years’ experience in a Ski Area terrain park setting.
- Strong work ethic, taking pride in the job and finished product.
- Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, holidays).
- Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions (appropriate footwear, layers, gloves, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge with woodworking, metal working, or welding.
- Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
- Ability to ski/snowboard at a high intermediate/advanced level required, with experience riding in a park setting. Skiing and riding for work requires completion of a competency test, skiing and riding professionally, is restricted to designated runs, and may have limits applied to frequency and difficulty of features ridden.
- Providing your own ASTM-compliant helmet and equipment for work which must be in good operating condition, meet Company requirements, and will be tested.
- Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off-duty.
- Effectively provide support and assistance to coworkers.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings, training, and company initiatives.
- Adherence to all company policies, and procedures concerning public safety and park access.
- Must be neat, punctual, and dependable.
- Must keep up to date on current freestyle design trends.
- Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.
- This position requires the ability to stand and ski for long periods of time, constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting of equipment (up to 20 kg), riding with a backpack, balancing and riding on snow with heavier loads and materials.
- This role operates equipment and hand tools and may do carpentry/welding work in a controlled setting.
- Foreperson work in a remote, alpine environment, and at times independently.
- Required outdoor uniform pieces are provided.
