Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dunn First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. FHC is a 8-12 school of approximately 750 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. This position provides support for individual students or small groups of students who have diverse learning needs. These needs may be academic, social-emotional, medical or a combination of all. Students with such needs may demonstrate behaviours that require patience, compassion, and knowledge of strategies that support neuro-diverse learners.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
Experience working with youth;
Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset
Fluent in English and French may be an asset;
Experience working with behavioural needs would be an asset
Experience working in a high school would be an asset
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;
Ability to work as a member of a team;
Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;
Ability to work with minimal supervision;
Willingness to engage in extensive professional development to support students with diverse learning needs
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provide before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
- Standard First Aid; to be provided within 3 months of the first day of employment
- Completion of the Education Assistant YG Learn course
