Job Title: Certified Personal Support Worker (PSW)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and dependable Certified Personal Support Worker to provide high-quality post-surgical care to an elderly client. The successful candidate must have experience with post-operative support, including assisting with prescribed exercises, encouraging ambulation, and helping with activities of daily living (ADLs). This role requires a PSW who is not only clinically skilled but also personable, social, and genuinely caring.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Personal Support Worker (PSW) Certificate (required)
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Experience in post-surgical care, including mobility support and therapeutic exercises
- Certified in Medication Administration
- Valid Food Handling Certificate
- Computer literate; able to complete documentation and communicate effectively
- Skilled in weekly meal planning and preparation of healthy, balanced meals
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis and diabetes care
- Proven ability to care for individuals with dementia
- Strong time management, organizational, and observational skills
- Friendly, social, and able to develop meaningful rapport with clients
- Mature, accountable, safety-conscious, and respectful of client confidentiality
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personal care including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and hygiene
- Support with post-surgical mobility and therapeutic exercises as directed
- Encourage ambulation and active participation in recovery activities
- Administer medications and monitor for side effects or changes in condition
- Assist with ADLs, ensuring the client’s dignity and independence are maintained
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals based on dietary requirements
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment
- Escort and assist client with transportation to medical appointments, as needed
- Provide companionship and promote emotional well-being through regular social interaction
- Monitor, document, and report health changes or concerns to healthcare professionals
- Assist with care coordination and follow the individualized care plan
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in home care, senior support, or assisted living
- Experience with chronic illness management (e.g., diabetes, dementia, dialysis)
- Familiarity with palliative or hospice care is an asset
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to respectful, client-centered care
