The Opportunity
McElhanney has an opportunity for a highly skilled Survey Party Chief/Pipeline Lead to join our Major Project team in the Red Deer Area! As a key member of our team, you will report to the Pipeline Division of Regulatory and Construction As-built Surveys. The successful candidate will primarily be working on major pipeline projects, as well as surveying other resource industry projects.

What You’ll Do
- Liaise between Project Manager and client representative.
- Field completion of various types of surveys focusing on the lifecycle of pipelines from planning, surveying, construction and maintenance.
- Manage information flow from field to office and prepare clear, concise, and accurate field notes, records, and calculations.
- Participate and contribute to McElhanney’s Heath, Safety and Environment (HSE) program.
- Attend and participate in McElhanney’s monthly field safety meetings.
- When in a Pipeline Field Lead position, act as McElhanney’s representative on site in maintaining client relationships, expectations, and reporting requirements based on the project needs.
- Two-year technical diploma in Geomatics or Civil Engineering with at least 2 years of previous experience in a similar role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, good attendance, sound judgment skills, and general computer knowledge.
- Capable of working independently and taking ownership of tasks with support from office staff.
- Physical ability to work on busy sites with varied terrain and ability to lift heavy equipment.
- Experience with Underground Utility Locating and Ground Disturbance is an asset.
- Experience with Civil 3D, MicroSurvey and Trimble Business Centre is an asset but not required.
- Valid drivers license is required.
The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $90,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
