Description of Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the on-duty Shift Supervisor, the Support Worker II will work day, weekend, evening, and overnight shifts to ensure basic rules and program policies and procedures are followed and the building is a safe, secure environment.
The Support Worker II will provide support, advocacy, information and after-hours support to the residents. They will sensitively and appropriately assist residents to meet their personal care needs to a high standard, including assistance with laundry, and preparing meals. They will also assist residents to take any prescribed medications while ensuring compliance with all medication administration policies, including safe storage, handling, medication administration, and record keeping.
The Support Worker II will enable residents to achieve independence as far as possible in all areas of their life by providing appropriate information, opportunity, training, and support. They will help residents to identify and choose their support needs. They will also assist in implementing and reviewing care plans.
Position Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in a Human Services field with a minimum of 1 year of direct experience in working in a residential setting is ideal. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- An open, accepting, and non-judgmental attitude with an ability to build rapport with clients and staff
- Experience working with people with complex life circumstances associated with substance-related disorders, mental health issues, mobility issues and homelessness
- Basic understanding of harm reduction principles based on dignity, hope and healing as individuals move forward towards improved health and well-being
- Demonstrated understanding of the addictions field
- Knowledge of referrals resources and health services available for vulnerable populations
- Understanding of inner-city issues
- Current Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check
- Familiarity with recommendations from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) as well as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) Inquiry
- First Aid, CPR, AED Certification
