We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to effectively co-lead the Access to Information unit. This team plays a vital role in supporting workers, employers, and their representatives in providing timely access to claim file information – balancing the right to know with the need to protect privacy.
The ideal candidate understands the nuanced balance between legislative rights to information and privacy protection, and the importance of identifying and disclosing relevant information with care and accuracy. Timely provision of this information helps workers and employers understand entitlement decisions, worker’s functional abilities to support return to work, prepare evidence and rational to support their appeal, and reflects our commitment to fairness in supporting our stakeholders’ right to appeal as outlined in sections 147 and 35 of the Workers’ Compensation Act.
Most importantly, this role is about supporting and developing staff as they navigate the complexity of this work.
Your Supervisor, Access to Information responsibilities:
- Effectively communicate corporate goals and objectives to the team.
- Develop, coach and mentor a team of employees by coaching, completing individual performance appraisals, staff recruitment, staff engagement, etc.
- Develop and implement opportunities for process and service improvements to ensure that team and unit objectives are met.
- Collaborate with the Appeals Commission and external stakeholders, sharing ideas in resolving issues and improving services when providing claims information to support appeals.
- Communicate directly with workers, employers, their representatives, and Union groups in response to inquiries, and provide proactive customer contact to maintain and build positive relationships and customer experience.
- Using a basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office products prepare reporting, presentations and briefings to management and the executive team Collaborate with FOIP on privacy policy, practices and guideline or team wide changes in process.
- Manage the team’s budget in a financially responsible manner while ensuring correct resourcing.
- Proactive involvement in creating a safe and healthy workplace.
- Maintain an organization-wide view of the WCB, including interaction with other members of the WCB management team.
- Work cooperatively with other units within the WCB to facilitate a safe and early return to work by injured workers.
Your experience and skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Business Management or similar discipline is an asset.
- Experience in routine disclosure of information, and project management would be an asset.
- Supervisory experience involving leadership, recruitment, performance development, coaching and mentoring, strategic planning, and team building is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applying Alberta’s FOIP Act, now replaced by the Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act, to ensure compliance with public-sector information access and privacy protection requirements.
- Working knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Act and WCB policies and procedures.
- Superior communication, decision-making, planning and customer service skills are required.
- Excellent computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Experience with ATIPXpress, eCO and PAM is beneficial, but not required.
Salary: Pay Grade 12 $92,684 to $109,024 per annum
This position is temporary for a period of up to one year with the possibility of extension or permanency. Final candidates for this position are required to undergo a security clearance as a condition of employment.
