Reporting To: Education/Family Well-Being Services Director
Overview:
The Student Success/Post Secondary Coordinator is responsible for supporting students grade 12 and under and families, as well as post-secondary students and adults, with navigating and succeeding in the education system by collaborating with colleagues and external agencies to provide appropriate aids and resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support students mental health, well-being, and educational success by providing counseling, support, and referrals as needed.
- Assess individual student circumstances to identify their needs to make appropriate referrals with external agencies with parents permission.
- Build relationships with students and families to create a supportive environment where the importance of education and graduation is highlighted.
- Communicate with students and families to answer questions, explain information, and address complaints, regarding educational services and assessments in a polite and timely manner.
- Develop and implement student success work-plans that meets each students unique needs and is achievable based on their individual circumstances.
- Set up and perform assessments with students to identify their needs and recommend a path to success based on the results.
- Prepare and deliver culturally appropriate programming to the community to provide information, materials, and activities for students to meet the needs of the community.
- Manage the Tutoring program by hiring and paying tutors as well as tutoring students 1:1 or in small groups as needed.
- Plan, organize, and host the annual Education Banquet and the End of Year Celebration for the Wahta Mohawks as required.
- Ensure annual reports, Nominal Roll, Special Education and Education Services, are completed accurately and submitted on time.
- Support students through enrollment, transitioning through different stages of schooling, and ensuring they have their school schedules, supplies, and other supports in place according to students' need for assistance.
- Support students, adults, and families with navigating and succeeding in the education system by collaborating with colleagues and external agencies to provide students and families with aids and resources.
- Provide educational assistance to support students in the community by providing guidance and counselling services, personal and academic counselling, and helping post secondary students to prepare for post-secondary school.
- Provide educational assistance to support students in the community by writing applications, letters, important emails, and gathering and sending information as required by the post- secondary school.
- Represent the community at external meetings, seminars, and conferences to further support community members by acting professionally, fully participating in the event, and reporting back the key take-aways from the session.
- Calculate monthly allowance for students, expense claims, or other finances or statistics to provide accurate entitlements and funding to clients using Wahta forms.
- Maintain the student database bu ensuring student files are up to date with pertinent information.
- Conduct other related duties and relevant tasks at an appropriate level as assigned by the Education/Family Well-Being Services Director.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum College Diploma in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar or related position with a proven demonstration of skills.
- Minimum 2 years of working with youth/students.
- Minimum 2 years of administrative experience.
Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be reliable and dependable, and committed to maintaining confidentiality.
- Must have the ability to work in and contribute to a team environment.
- Must have a proficient level of communication skills, verbal and written, and be comfortable dealing with the public.
- Must have the capacity to take initiative and to multi-task at times to accomplish the tasks and activities assigned
- Experience working in a First Nation environment is an asset.
- Knowledge in Kanienkeha:ka culture and history is an asset.
- Must posses a current and valid Driver's License and dependable vehicle.
Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time position beginning immediately. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
