STUDENT MENTAL WELLNESS & RECOVERY PRACTITIONER

DUTIES
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Student Mental Wellness & Recovery Practitioner provides a broad range of mental health services
through the provision of direct clinical services, consultation services and professional and public education to the UCN community. The
Student Mental Wellness & Recovery Practitioner strives to make mental health an institutional priority by promoting mental well-being and
enhancing services available to students.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor of Social Work or Registered Psychiatric Nurse; a directly related equivalent combination of education and experience
- Several years’ experience providing mental health services including case management, crisis counselling, short-term counselling
- Experience providing mental health services relating to the intergenerational effects of residential schools and colonialism
- Knowledge of various counselling modalities
- Knowledge of crisis response best practices
- Strong knowledge of community resources
- Ability to relate to students, staff and faculty in ways that builds confidence and trust in supporting and enhancing student well-being
- Ability to provide services that are responsive and suitable to the needs of specific student populations including those who identify
- Effective and culturally relevant communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated time management and organizational skills
- Proficient computer skills and ability to use information technology effectively
- Commitment to life-long learning
ASSETS
• Masters of Social Work
- Ability to speak an indigenous language
- Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Valid Class 5 Drivers License with the ability to travel throughout the year
- An active membership with the Manitoba College of Social Workers or active Certificate of Practice from the College of Registered
- Completion of Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) within 6 months of hire
- Completion of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certificate within 6 months of hire
- Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry and Adult Abuse Registry
