Your Role in Our Journey
As a Staff Developer on Jane’s JaneX team, you will shape how AI improves the daily work of hundreds of thousands of health practitioners. You will join an established, senior-heavy team focused on taking our first production-ready AI feature, AI Scribe, from an emerging product to a core part of Jane. At the same time, you will be driving the foundation of enabling AI innovation across the company for years to come.
In this role, you will lead the design of Jane’s AI architecture, collaborate with teams across the business to guide the development of tools and systems that will make it easier for others to build exceptional AI-powered features in a product-led and customer-centric way. You will have the opportunity to influence company direction, work with cutting-edge technologies, and set the standard for how Jane delivers high-quality, impactful AI capabilities.
The Impact You Could Have
- Lead the technical vision and roadmap for Jane’s AI platform.
- Drive AI Scribe from an early-stage product to a high-quality, high-retention core feature.
- Partner with product and development teams to enable scalable, secure, and reliable AI-powered features.
- Influence company-wide adoption of best practices for AI architecture and development.
- Create and maintain APIs and data pipelines that serve as the backbone of Jane’s AI capabilities.

The Experience We Feel We Need
- Depth and diversity of experience, already operating at the Staff level, demonstrated by working in different capacities across multiple products and companies, bringing a well-rounded perspective on various development methodologies, problem-solving techniques, and team collaboration.
- Extensive experience and ownership in design and architecture, making impactful architectural decisions across more than one team and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- A University Degree in Computer or a related STEM field plus approximately 10+ years of experience. Those with a Master's or PhD may be considered with less experience. Alternatively, candidates with 13+ years of industry experience gained through non-traditional paths, such as bootcamps or self-teaching, are also encouraged to apply!
- Proven experience leading technical efforts across multiple teams, driving decisions, and establishing best practices that uphold high standards and align with organizational objectives.
- A desire to remain actively involved in coding while leading teams through technical challenges, balancing hands-on work with high-level strategy.
- Actively involved in creating technical roadmaps that align engineering efforts with strategic business goals, and partnering with leadership to influence business direction.
- Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, collaborating effectively with stakeholders, including Product Managers, Designers, and others to ensure cohesive and efficient product development.
- Our development team at Jane primarily works with Ruby on Rails, but we welcome applicants with experience in other OOP languages (Java, C#, Python, etc.). We strongly believe that great developers can learn any tech stack, so you’ll have the resources and support needed to ramp up on ours if you haven't worked with it previously. At Jane, we’re committed to paying fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has an annual salary range of $154,400 to $241,300. While that is a large range, it is intentional. It reflects the full growth journey someone might take in the role, from developing skills early on to becoming highly proficient and ultimately achieving excellence.
Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, which for this role represents an annual salary of $183,400. A starting salary below this typically indicates a candidate with strong potential who is still developing key skills. Salaries above this usually apply to existing team members who have made a significant impact and bring deep Jane-specific knowledge.
