As an Engineer/Technologist, Shipbuilding, you will provide technical oversight and support throughout the design, construction, testing / commissioning, and delivery of multiple classes of Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard vessels. This oversight and support will be provided through the application of practical job knowledge that is typically obtained through advanced education and work experience in the field of ship design and construction.
The Engineer/Technologist reviews subcontractor calculations, models, reports, and technical specifications to ensure that structural requirements from the customer, Classification Society, and shipyard have been achieved in the design. They will also be responsible for developing solutions to resolve technical issued encountered during construction.
- Engineering or Technologist degree
- Minimum of 1 year shipbuilding / ship design experience or related heavy manufacturing experience
- Applied experience with exposure to hull structure and / or steel outfitting.
- Understanding of Shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, facility / resource capacity
- Ability to navigate shipbuilding production drawings, bill of materials, and 3D model required
- Experience with AutoCAD to prepare sketches and engineering drawings
- Stakeholder management skills. Able to engage with Production and Planning counterparts regularly to ensure business needs are met.
- Comfortable in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and able to navigate changing organizational structure and multiple ongoing programs
