Job Overview:
The Shipping Clerk will be responsible for preparing and processing outgoing shipments, ensuring that products are accurately packed, labeled, and dispatched. The ideal candidate will have excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in shipping, receiving, and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Shipments:
- Pack and label products for shipment, ensuring they meet customer and regulatory requirements.
- Select appropriate shipping materials (boxes, bubble wrap, etc.) based on the nature of the product.
- Verify the contents of orders against shipping labels and invoices to ensure accuracy.
- Coordinate with Shipping Partners:
- Schedule pick-up and delivery with freight carriers or delivery services.
- Prepare and manage shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing slips, and customs paperwork (if applicable).
Inventory Control:
- Track and update inventory levels for outbound shipments.
- Report and document any discrepancies in inventory, damaged goods, or incorrect orders.
Quality Control:
- Ensure all outgoing products are in excellent condition and meet quality standards.
- Inspect products for defects or damage before packing and shipping.
- Data Entry & Documentation:
- Enter shipping information into the system accurately, including addresses, tracking numbers, and shipment dates.
- Update the warehouse management system (WMS) to reflect shipped items and inventory updates.
- Customer Communication:
- Provide tracking numbers and shipment updates to customers, when needed.
- Handle any shipping-related customer inquiries or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain Cleanliness and Organization:
- Keep the shipping area neat, organized, and free from hazards.
- Maintain equipment (scanners, computers, forklifts, etc.) in good working order.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience:
- Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse operations is preferred.
- Familiarity with inventory management software and shipping tools
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (depending on the nature of the job).
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, WMS, etc.).
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform manual tasks (lifting, bending, etc.).
- Ability to lift packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
