GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Working under general direction from the Production Supervisor, the Set-up Technician is responsible for the set-up and operation of injection and blow-molding machines throughout the plant. The Set-up Technician also participates in recommending improvements for quick tool changes, and in implementing SMED.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete all assigned mould changes on a daily basis as scheduled by the Supervisor, including mould removal, set-up, start-up and Quality Control approval of moulded parts
- Complete all required documentation as detailed in work procedures, or as directed by the Supervisor
- Prepare for the shift’s mould and tool changeovers
- Ensure all equipment is in good and safe working order, including moulding machines, lifting devices and auxhiliary equipment; notify the Supervisor of any issues with moulds, equipment, or tools and coordinate repairs
- Conduct minor machine repairs, including but not limited to heater bands and thermocouples
- Prepare moulds for shipment and assist carrier in loading and unloading of moulds
- Assists production team in starting, stopping, repairing and/or troubleshooting moulds and equipment
- Assist with the set-up of post-molding equipment when required
- Change end of arm tooling as required
- Implement and maintain 5S within the department
- Participate in Kaizen/SMED events
- Conduct general maintenance of all tools, and ensure safety throughout the plant
- Perform other duties as required
- Good knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within mold making
- Able to read, and communicate verbally and in writing in the English language
- Able to manage multiple assignments simultaneously
- Able to troubleshoot with a sense of urgency
- Must be mechanically inclined, with strong attention to details
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, time management and documentation skills
- Proven interpersonal skills and team orientated with the ability to work within a diverse workplace
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in an injection and/or blow-molding plastics manufacturing environment
- Requires a high school diploma
- Must have a valid Forklift Operator’s license
- Experience working in a fast-paced and highly changing environment with limited supervision
Work conditions are consistent with a manufacturing plant environment. The Set-up Technician requires a moderate degree of physical fitness, as the role requires him/her to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs. He/she must also be able to work near moving mechanical machinery, and must be able to work in an environment with high noise levels (hearing protection required).
