The Ministry of Social Services requires a respectful and caring individual with a citizen-centred focus to provide services to people with disabilities. Within the Income Assistance Service Delivery Provincial Services team, you will be part of the Ministry Eligibility Review Team (MERT). You will confirm eligibility for the Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability Program (SAID) using information gathered by a third party using various disability assessment tools. You will ensure fair, consistent application of SAID regulations and policies and will represent the Ministry’s case in appeal hearings. You will be accountable for the business processes used within MERT and with the other agencies, such as providing staff with up-to-date information related to eligibility, the appeal business processes and policies. You will prepare written reports and correspondence; support and influence the development/enhancement and implementation of operational policies and standards. You will be required to access, input, retrieve information and merge documents from several computer systems (SWIN) and software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc). You will conduct an in-depth analysis of community-based organization (CBO) delivered programs to identify and respond to areas of needed support.
Responsibilities include training, supporting and liaising with third parties and staff, and monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of new processes.
Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be obtained through completion of a Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Indian Social Work, Sociology or a related course of study, as well as knowledge of the legislation, protocols and programs related to services for individuals with mental, physical and cognitive disabilities. A combination of human service experience, information gathering and assessment skills will also be considered.

- The indicators and dynamics of poverty, disabilities, family relationships, domestic violence and how they impact people;
- Multi-cultural beliefs, values and perspectives, with particular emphasis on First Nation and Métis;
- Income assistance programs;
- Principles, practices and ethics of social work; and
- Interviewing skills and techniques.
You will have the demonstrated ability to:
- Interpret and apply the intent of legislation and social policies to complex and/or ambiguous situations with disputed and/or limited facts;
- Evaluate and gather client interview and assessment data regarding multiple disabilities and the impact on daily living, life situations, and other circumstances to determine eligibility for the SAID program;
- Work independently, interdependently, and participate as a contributing member of a variety of teams within the workplace, community and other government departments/agencies;
- Plan and balance diverse and conflicting workload pressures in order to meet program standards;
- Access, retrieve, input, process, maintain, format and transmit information/data using a variety of hardware/software and or electronic systems accurately and in a timely manner;
- Organize, present and record information in a clear, concise, accurate, appropriate and timely manner both verbally and in writing, which allows others to understand the reason for a decision/recommendation or the need for further action; and
- Assess, develop, implement and evaluate trends, processes and practices in order to enhance client service-oriented program service delivery.
