As an integral part of the Safety Team, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for providing safety support to employees. The Safety Coordinator maintains programs, policies and practices to build a safety first behavior based culture. This requires collaborating and supporting the operations teams in the maintenance of our safety system. We are currently seeking a Safety Coordinator to join our Support Services Team in Mackenzie, BC, This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, with standard business hours and occasional flexibility required based on operational needs. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and supporting the company’s Health and Safety program, with a strong focus on documentation control, training, orientations, audits, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with operations teams, supervisors, and safety personnel to implement and monitor safety systems and foster a behavior-based safety culture across our operatins. As the Safety Coordinator, your key responsibilities will include managing safety documentation, developing and updating policies, conducting internal audits, coordinating hazard assessments, and assisting with investigations and inspections. You will also support training initiatives, first aid compliance, and claims management, while advising the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee. To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
- 2+ years of experience in an occupational health and safety role, preferably in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment
- A diploma or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (CRSP or other relevant designations are considered an asset)
- Strong knowledge of OH&S regulations, hazard assessments, and safety systems
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to lead training and coach others
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and safety tracking systems (DATS, etc.)
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a fast-paced setting
Duties
- Assist to maintain documentation and document control for the overall Health and Safety program, , drafting and updating safe work practices documentation, maintaining forms, and reviewing all documentation
- Coordination and administration of the safety system
- Prepare and administer action plans and safety actions from external & internal audits, inspections, and investigations
- Coordinate and implement hazard assessment program & tools
- Liaison to all departments on OH&S matters
- Coordinate safety tracking and audit the processes
- Assist with First Aid regulatory requirements
- Set-up and implementation of Digital Action Tracking System (DATS)
- Advisor on the Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee
- Weekly and month end reporting of safety stats
- Assist with the management employee’s WSBC, claims
- Providing assistance to the Supervisors & Superintendents, assisting with development of programs, tools, & skills including:
- Inspections
- Investigations
- Observations
- Conducting crew meetings
- Hazard assessments (FLRA & Job Hazard Assessments)
- Job Training & Competency determination
- New & young worker orientation
- Location Safety Plan
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in an occupational health and safety role, preferably in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment
- A diploma/certificate in Health & Safety/Environment, or equivalent discipline
- Knowledge of occupational health & safety principles, policies, and regulations
- Safety focused attitude and strong relationship building skills
- Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to clearly communicate detailed information to internal and external stakeholders
- Confident in coordinating and delivering effective safety presentations
- Highly organized, with a proactive approach to developing OH&S programs, tools, and training
- Skilled in coaching individuals on OH&S systems and procedures
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently while keeping the team informed
- Collaborative and team-oriented, fostering a safety-first culture
- Able to remain positive and effective in high-demand, fast-paced environments
- Proficient with office software and safety-related digital tools
- Committed to ongoing learning and staying current with OH&S best practices
- Proven ability to manage heavy workloads, shifting priorities, and frequent interruptions while maintaining focus and coordination
