We’re Hiring: Front of House Staff (Evenings, 20-25 hrs/week, Weekends Required)

About Us
Grain of Rice is a small, family-owned restaurant serving authentic Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. We take pride in supporting the Albertan economy by sourcing our ingredients from local farmers whenever possible.
As a small business, we do not always operate with a full team, so this position requires someone who is comfortable working independently. You may be working shifts alone, meaning you must be responsible, self-sufficient, and able to handle multiple tasks on your own.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
- Is familiar with or willing to learn our menu and understands where our ingredients come from.
- Can confidently take customer orders and assist guests in choosing menu items, including gluten-free options.
- Has a strong work ethic and takes initiative—we need someone who doesn’t wait to be told what to do.
- Is punctual and reliable, arriving on time and ready to work every shift.
- Can handle working shifts alone and is comfortable multitasking.
- Is available for evening shifts and must be available on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
- Keeps the restaurant in a clean and presentable condition for our diners.
Job Responsibilities
Customer Service & Order Management
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly, welcoming manner.
- Take customer orders at the counter and answer menu-related questions.
- Handle takeout orders—packing food, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining efficiency.
- Be knowledgeable about our gluten-free options and ingredient sourcing.
Cleaning & Restaurant Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness in the dining area, counter, and front-of-house spaces.
- Clean tables, chairs, and windows regularly.
- Sweep and mop floors at the end of the shift.
- Keep all areas dust-free and wipe down necessary surfaces, including utensil holders, shelves, and counters.
- Clean and restock restrooms to maintain hygiene standards.
Stocking & Inventory
- Monitor and restock essential supplies, including:
- Takeout containers
- Sauce containers
- Takeout utensils
- Drinks and bottled beverages
- House-made sauces
- Keep track of inventory to ensure smooth daily operations.
