Role Overview:
The Reconditioner plays a vital role in PIFL’s operations by supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient reconditioning of intermediate bulk containers (IBCs), also known as totes. Reporting directly to the Reconditioning Manager, this role involves executing key cleaning, inspection, and documentation processes that ensure the integrity and quality of totes re-entering circulation. The ideal candidate will be safety-conscious, hands-on, and passionate about process consistency and environmental responsibility.
Your First 90 Days:
First 30 Days: Orientation and Integration
Complete onboarding and safety training, including WHMIS, SDS handling, and chemical awareness. Learn PIFL’s reconditioning standards and procedures by shadowing experienced team members. Understand tote identification systems, product classification methods, and the step-by-step reconditioning workflow. Begin handling basic tasks including label removal, initial rinsing, and documenting tote intake.
Next 30 Days: Strategy and Engagement
Operate cleaning equipment such as wash bays, pressure systems, and inspection tools with supervision. Begin performing internal and external inspections on totes, reporting non-conforming materials or issues. Manage SDS cross-checking and assist with reclassification of contents based on chemical type. Demonstrate safe handling and movement of totes, including use of forklifts (training provided if necessary).
Following 30 Days: Independence and Growth
Independently manage full tote reconditioning cycles in alignment with established SOPs. Identify opportunities for improving cleaning effectiveness and reducing environmental impact. Complete detailed records of each tote processed, contributing to quality assurance and traceability. Actively participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives led by the Reconditioning Manager.
Success Metrics for the First 90 Days and Beyond:
You will be evaluated based on your:
- Accuracy in cleaning, inspecting, and documenting tote reconditioning processes.
- Adherence to safety protocols and environmental compliance requirements.
- Ability to consistently meet quality standards and production timelines.
- Contribution to continuous improvement through feedback and collaboration.
- Positive engagement with team members and supervisors.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform the complete reconditioning process for totes including: external/internal washing, re-washing (as required), drying, and visual inspection.
- Support the Reconditioning Manager by accurately verifying the presence and relevance of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for each incoming tote.
- Remove or replace labels, closures, and fittings as part of the tote preparation process.
- Visually inspect tote structure and cleanliness before re-certification.
- Identify and report damaged or non-conforming totes for further evaluation or disposal.
- Record tote history and processing data in accordance with quality and traceability requirements.
- Assist in maintaining wash bay equipment, ensuring proper function and cleanliness.
- Support environmental compliance initiatives by following water use and chemical disposal guidelines.
- Contribute to departmental housekeeping and ensure work areas remain clean, safe, and organized.
- Participate in ongoing training programs, process audits, and team-based improvement initiatives.
- Undertake additional responsibilities that align with PIFL’s mission of quality, safety, and innovation.
Requisites:
- Previous experience in industrial manufacturing, chemical handling, or equipment operation preferred.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on environment with physical duties including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail with an ability to follow SOPs, safety procedures, and environmental guidelines.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Forklift certification is an asset (training may be provided).
- Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and WHMIS is preferred.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, high-accountability team environment.

- Basic mechanical aptitude is an asset.
