Licensed Childcare Centre with programs infants, toddlers and preschoolers. The childcare centre will offer a warm, nurturing safe and “homey” environment in which children will develop, play, and learn with confidence in a beautiful centre in a central location that is clean, spacious and a perfectly cozy style environment.
Principle Responsibilities:
At present, our daycare is looking for a supervisor who will work both independently and collaboratively with the director to lead and manage a team of educators to deliver enrichment-based programs for children ages from 6 months to 5 years old.
A Supervisor for a child care ensures the facility is a safe and fun place for children to learn. This is a managerial role and the supervisor is tasked with a wide variety of responsibilities, including managing staff, interacting with parents, and marketing. They enjoy working with children and want to provide the children and staff at the child care center with the best possible experience.
Qualifications
- Must be able to legally work in Canada
- Minimum 2years of experience of managing a centre in a Supervisory role.
- Thorough knowledge of Ministry licensing requirements of the Child Care.
- Education: Early Childhood Education Diploma and Early Childhood Management Certificate is an asset
- Current RECE and member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators, Ontario
- Clear/no relevant information from a Vulnerable Sector Check (current within 3 months)
- Must be up to date on all required immunizations
- TB Current (within 6 months)
- Current Standard First Aid- level C with CPR and AED certification
- Excellent time-management skills with the ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and be flexible
- Must be a team player and be able to effectively collaborate with staff, families, director
- Strong administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Web based software
- Excellent command of the English language both oral and written.
Skill Set
A child care supervisor must be kind, patient and loving, as they spend most of their days working with young children. While they must be a strong leader, with the ability to manage a diverse group of children, families and staff it is important that they are an effective communicator as they will be interacting with both parents, children and staff daily. It is also imperative that they are very organized, reliable, detail-oriented, trustworthy and responsible.
Responsibilities
- Due to the nature of work and hours of operation of the centre, the Supervisor must be available to work a variety of different shifts. Occasional evenings may be required to provide tours to potential families, attend staff meetings, other professional development and daycare events such as open-house or any other marketing event.
- Implementing the childcare centres Mission, Values, and objectives aligning program goals with the Program Statement and always ensuring compliance with Ministry licensing requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act.
- Be the primary point of contact for the director, family, and staff for the day-to-day operation of the program.
- Help develop and maintain programming to enhance the cultural, educational, physical, mental, and social well-being of our children
- Training of staff, assisting teachers with program planning and ensuring classrooms meet or exceed licensing requirements
- Liaising with outside resources, when necessary, i.e., speech, occupational therapists, resource consultants, etc.
- Assisting the classroom educators with any routines or needs of children, when necessary, i.e., diapering, rest/nap periods, transitions, etc.
- May be required to assist occasionally in classroom duties to meet ratios and other program requirements
- Maintains inventory lists of all items in the centre and orders more when needed (with approval from Director)
- Training of new staff to meet the highest quality standards and ensure growth
Management:
- Up to date with changes on CCLS
- Ensuring ratio of child to educator minimums are being consistently met per Ministry of Education Requirements
- Implementation and adherence to Centre policies and procedures to optimize programs, write, update and review policies and procedures.
- Ensure all children have proper paperwork on file, including their health information, allergies, details of any medical conditions they suffer from and authorization from the parents stating who is allowed to pick the child up from the facility
- Knowing how to use parent portal apps an organizational management tool, to check enrollment projections and staff hours
- Brainstorm and immediately add several new ‘highlights’ to the centre to make it stand out and show pride of ownership
- Reporting to the Director/Centre owner on a weekly basis or more often if required ( Report on enrollment, exits, staff and overall operations)
Day-to-day Operations:
- Design an “Amazing Experience Tour” for interested and walk-in clients
- Reviews the classroom boards ensuring that information posted is accurate, updated, current with standards of brand and inclusive of all requirements by Ministry of Education, Fire Department, and Public Health
- Consistently communicate with parents to retrieve feedback and increase referrals
Staff
- Screening, interviewing, and hiring of new staff
- Training of new staff to meet highest quality standards and ensure growth.
- Continuous coaching and mentoring of the staff to increase educational components. Supervisor is in-charge of approving and expanding on the planned activities that teachers produce (ensuring they are inclusive, educational, engaging and age-appropriate)
- Monitoring staff members to ensure they’re accurately performing assigned duties and responsibilities (ensuring their CPR/First Aid is updated regularly)
- Leading staff meeting and professional development workshops
- Ensure all Performance reviews are completed
- Train, coach and mentor staff
- Train staff to respond to all calls all the time with a scripted and quality response
- Develop a solid plan to reward, retain and recognize staff in the centre to ensure optimal client service and childcare services
Marketing and Sales:
- Constant communication with parents, always readily available to listen to their comments and concerns and keeping them informed on new developments via professional newsletters, parent portal messages, emails and telephone calls.
- Interacting with children on a daily basis and know their names and parent names, details and information in their file (allergies, custody if applicable, background, special requirements, etc.)
- Seek and actively pursue marketing initiatives that are fiscally responsible but effective in increasing enrollment
- Develop a marketing network with schools in the area and libraries to advertise in their events
- Organizes all parent events in the centre including Holiday Concert, Mother’s day, Father’s day, Preschool graduation and any other special events that the centre wants to celebrate above and beyond
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Implements licensing regulations for the Childcare Center.
- Ensures the Childcare Center, rooms and play areas are maintained in a clean, orderly, and safe condition
- Oversees implementation of daily food programs to meet children’s nutritional needs; ensures that substitutions are provided for children with dietary restrictions; posts and trains staff on child food allergies and how to accommodate children with allergies
- Maintains appropriate staff level to accommodate children enrolled in the program in accordance with regulations
- Provides information to parents concerning their children’s development, abilities, and areas of concern; explains program procedures and classroom activities as requested
- Monitors teachers to ensure quality of teaching methods and support for program goals
- Reports incidents of suspected child abuse to proper authorities
- Works in classrooms as a teacher on an as needed basis
- Trains, schedules, and supervises employees
Qualifications
- Early Childhood Educator Diploma
- Must be registered and a member in good standing in the College of Early Childhood Educators (CECE)
- Experience working with children in a childcare or before and after school setting is an asset
- Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification - Level C
- Ability to obtain clear valid Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen
