The Area 1 Population and Public Health Manager is a key leadership role in the delivery of Public Health Services and Programs across the healthcare continuum and reports directly to the Director, Public Health, North Zone. The manager is accountable for day-to-day operations at all sites within Area 1 including High Level, Fort Vermillion, La Crete, Paddle Prairie, Rainbow Lake and Zama City. This position is responsible and accountable for providing direction and leadership over the public health programs and staff at the site in support of the vision, mission and business plan of AHS. Responsible and accountable for contributing to the achievement of the goals of Public Health. The works within an area Leadership team and collaborates with Senior Management to assess, coordinate, implement and evaluate primary health services at the site level. The Manager, Public Health is also responsible for Implementation, operationalization, management and monitoring of provincially integrated delivery of public health services and quality management programs. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Northern Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $6,300. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Permanent and temporary employees working in excess of one (1) year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel are also eligible to receive an annual reimbursement of personal travel expenses to an annual maximum of $1,235. Eligible employees will be reimbursed for the cost of one (1) round trip, per calendar year, to any destination within Alberta. Travel must originate from a community above the 57th parallel to any destination within Alberta and cannot be carried over.
Description:
This position will provide direction, leadership & organization over activity in the areas supporting the vision, mission & business plan of Alberta Health Services, making key decisions, having leadership responsibility for establishing/contributing to the achievement of goals of Services and Programs. Other responsibilities include maintains an expert level of understanding of clinical policies, processes, procedures, systems, standards & ensures compliance by all employees. Develops & manages the implementation of programs ensuring services are aligned with the needs of populations & communities. Ensures patient care queries/issues are addressed & provides counsel/advice to patients, family & team members. Manages risk throughout sites by ensuring patient care practices comply with the professional service standards. Develops & maintains influential relationships with the public, community, patients & families ensuring patient care programs are adequately meeting the needs while maintaining professional affiliations & engaging with community organizations, government agencies, educational institutions and other health care organizations to maintain high standards of public health care. Accesses guidance from leadership and/or health care professionals from other areas to resolve complex issues facing communities. Manages area budget, provides input into functional budgets & broader organizational budget decisions/forecasts. Provides mentoring/coaching for all team members while ensuring own self-development & the development of others. Attends and participates in meetings, conferences & committees. Other duties as required.

Related Baccalaureate Degree plus appropriate licenses and designations. A minimum of 3 to 5 years in a management role related to the delivery of Public Health Services and Programs, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity (healthcare experiences an asset). A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. Working knowledge of the health care system is required.

Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short-and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in the North and remote communities. Completion of Connect Care training.
