Position Summary
Under the direction of the Social Services Manager, the Program Coordinator will be responsible to provide recreation services that enhance lives and maximize BRHD’s Residents wellness through high quality recreation programs ensuring that our Residents are engaged and stimulated physically, socially, spiritually, intellectually, vocationally and emotionally in compliance with regulatory, legislative and organizational stands. The Programs Coordinator will work a mix of days, evenings and weekends.
Primary Duties
- To plan, develop and facilitate meaningful recreation/leisure programs
- To ensure residents are aware of recreation/leisure opportunities available to them by creating and distributing monthly recreation calendars and quarterly newsletters
- To promote resident autonomy, independence and advocacy, including Residents’ rights and a culture of non-abuse
- To effectively promote the Resident’s Council, including attendance at council meetings upon agreement of Council, assist in facilitating Resident Council meetings and meeting minutes
- Completion of documentation/assessments in compliance with regulatory, legislative and organizational policies (RAI/MDS/ MDCC narratives, PCC)
- Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to BRHD policies and procedures
- To complete all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- As per O Reg. 79/10, s.67 (1) (a) “Diploma or undergraduate degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or a related field or enrolled in such a field”
- A minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Certification in specific wellness related interventions (i.e Seniors Fitness, Montessori-based Dementia Programming) an asset.
- Strong leadership skills and experience in managing volunteers
- Effective oral and written communication skills to respectfully and compassionately work with older adults and their families.
- Proficiency in Activity Pro, Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic health records (Point Click Care and POC)
- Fluent in American Sign Language and knowledge of Deaf culture
- Knowledge of CIHI criteria for RAI/MDS documentation
- Valid driver’s license and drivers abstract required *F License an asset
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening
- Geriatric/Social Services background
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $26.23-$29.21 per hour
