The External Managers Program is an integral part of HOOPP’s alpha platform, delivering an attractive and diversifying return-to-risk profile that complements HOOPP’s internal trading program. This mandate encompasses direct fund and managed account investments across the full spectrum of hedge fund strategies and asset classes, including equities, credit, interest rates, currencies, commodities, and digital assets.

We are seeking a Portfolio Manager to lead investments and shape the strategic direction of this program. This is a high-impact leadership role with end-to-end accountability for manager selection, portfolio construction, and risk-adjusted performance, reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager.

What you will do:

  • Identify, assess, and allocate to best-in-class managers across multi-strategy, niche, and capacity-constrained opportunities.

  • Lead portfolio construction and tactical allocation decisions to optimize diversification, alpha generation, and alignment with HOOPP’s risk/return objectives.

  • Lead comprehensive initial and ongoing due diligence for prospective and existing external managers, spanning investment, operational, and ESG considerations.

  • Oversee and continuously refine investment guidelines to adapt to evolving market conditions.

  • Utilize advanced analytical platforms and proprietary models to assess performance attribution, risk exposures, and alpha sustainability.

  • Integrate market intelligence, scenario analysis, and stress testing into portfolio decision-making.

  • Leverage tools such as Bloomberg, Python, PowerBI, and Tableau to support data-driven investment insights.

  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with global hedge fund managers, peer plans, and industry thought leaders.

  • Collaborate with HOOPP’s internal trading desks, risk management, operations, sustainability, legal, and tax teams to drive holistic investment outcomes.

  • Stay abreast of developments in innovative technologies, systematic investing, capital markets, and the global economy.

  • Represent HOOPP at high-profile industry conferences, roundtables, and forums, positioning the organization as a respected and influential hedge fund allocator.

  • Opportunity to mentor and train Associates and Analysts, fostering technical skill development, commercial acumen, and a high-performance culture.

  • Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation across the Capital Markets Investments team.

  • Operate independently with sound judgement and a high level of integrity.

What you bring:

  • University education, preferably with a post graduate degree in Business, Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Finance, or other quantitative discipline.

  • CFA and/or other relevant investment-related designations (e.g., CAIA).

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in hedge fund allocation or equivalent buy-side investment management, with a proven track record of generating risk-adjusted returns.

  • Deep knowledge of hedge fund strategies, portfolio construction, risk management, operational due diligence, and investment regulations.

  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office; experience with Bloomberg, Python, PowerBI, and Tableau preferred.

  • Exceptional communication skills; capable of influencing senior stakeholders and representing HOOPP externally.

  • Strong adaptability, commercial judgment, and integrity, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced investment environment.

  • Available for travel (5–7 trips annually) for on-site reviews and industry engagements.

  • Verifiable track record of collaboration while also being responsible for individual portfolios.

  • Strong work ethic, time management, organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and excellent English - written and verbal.

  • Demonstrates HOOPP's core values of Accountable, Compassionate and Trustworthy.
