Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Counselling and Accessibility Services, the Peer Program Coordinator develops, implements, and supports planning of holistic wellness initiatives for students. The Peer Program Coordinator coordinates peer programming.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and onboarding process for Peer Programs (Peer Wellness Specialists, Peer Academic Specialists, Peer Navigation Coaches, Free Store), as well as developing further peer student groups.
- Oversees Social Work placement students for the Free Store and/or Peer Wellness Program.
- Facilitate the planning of campus holistic wellness initiatives.
- Provide support and create/facilitate training to all of the peer programs.
- Collaborate with departments across campus to support holistic wellness initiatives.
- Manages social media accounts and promotion of all of the Peer Programs including presentations.
- Assists with the expansion and development of services offered by the Peer Program such as, creating wellness workshops/groups for students.
- Supports students with navigating mental health services on campus (Counselling Services, MYSSP), and navigating City of Greater Sudbury wellness resources.
- Supports the Laurentian University CARE team by assisting student navigation of recommended resources and connecting students to ongoing peer support.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all medically confidential or personal information associated with Peer Program referrals. Handle confidential and sensitive information, documentation, and files in a professional and appropriate manner (as required by FIPPA).
- Creates training content for Peer Programs.
- Coordinates hours of operations, approval of hours, and shifts of Peer Wellness Specialists and Coaches.
- Collaborates and assists with planning of wellness events/initiatives for the Peer Wholistic Wellness Program.
- Assists students with navigating mental health services on campus and the community.
- Provides presentations to groups on campus about the Peer Programs.
- Creates promotional materials for social media and manages social media accounts.
- Assists with the development of marketing materials for the program.
- Attends and collaborates for events with other departments on campus.
- Creates and facilitates holistic wellness workshops/groups on campus for students.
- Completes and attends all required training or professional development opportunities; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelors of Social Work degree is required. A Master's in Social Work is an asset.
- Must be registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
- Minimum two (2 ) years of experience working within the mental health field is preferred.
- Knowledge of mental health resources, services, and interventions.
- Knowledge of mental health and learner academic needs.
- Demonstrates cultural competence.
- Experience in successfully navigating and engaging with institutional systems, services and supports in a university environment would be considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt communication style and response to meet the needs of students.
- Knowledge of mental health services available in Ontario.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and promotion.
- Excellent abilities to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team.
- Sound judgment with the ability to problem solve in highly stressful or sensitive situations.
- Assesses workflow and student needs, and identifies opportunities for improvements to enhance services.
- Proficiency with word-processing, and database applications (e.g., Google Drive, Gmail, Google docs) and aptitude for computer-based information systems and internet-based tools; and
- Ability to work fluently (verbal and written) in both official languages, French and English, is required.
The official University hours of operation shall be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, during, and including, the months from September to April, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m Monday through Friday during and including May to August., amounting to thirty-three and three-quarter (33.75) hours per week.
