Location: Innisfail, Alberta Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process timely and accurate biweekly payrolls in accordance with Company and regulatory requirements for 100+ employees, hourly and salaried
  • Verify submitted time and attendance records, export from M2M to ADP
  • Process extra payroll runs, ROE’s or manual cheques in order to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Process accurate and timely terminations & complete ROEs electronically on ROE web or ADP
  • Complete general (statutory) holiday verification and entry
  • Enter absence requests to the holiday calendar. Enter call in sick/other leave to ADP
  • Monitor and manage employee withholdings/remittances (garnishees, benefits, source deduction remittances)
  • Provide full support reporting in electronic format for each pay period, and prepare the payroll calendar
  • Complete and enter the payroll journal entry to M2M, and submit to Controller for posting
  • Administer RRSP/DPSP, group health/insurance, Health Spending Account, etc.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and reporting: accruals for wage/salary, WCB, vacation
  • Maintain reporting for social fund, tool allowance, and other related accounts
  • Prepare and provide statistical analysis for company, and government reporting
  • Assist with the completion of year-end/new year checklist. T4 review and adjustments, update DPSP # to new enrollees, verify taxable amounts – car allowance, tool allowance, employee changes etc.
  • Maintain tool allowance spreadsheet monthly; new hires, terminations, receipts, payments, clear balances, and reconcile to ADP
  • Process new employees, leaves, and terminations in ADP. Update M2M with pay rates and department changes
  • Update payroll manual with changes and notes.
  • Respond to all payroll inquiries from employees and internals with courtesy and efficiency
  • Monitor and raise awareness of internal controls in the payroll areas.
  • Play an active role in the safety committee and attend company functions to help with fostering positive working relationships with employees.
  • Assistance with AP, AR, job costing, and time entry as required.


Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of payroll functions and procedures: direct payroll experience is required and Level 1 (PCP) designation through the Canadian Payroll Association is beneficial
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation and employment standards
  • Knowledge of accounting principles
  • ADP or similar third-party HR/Payroll software experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially high proficiency in Excel.
  • Ability to perform calculations including percentages, fractions, averages or other formulas; compile and organize data in a readable and comprehensible manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain complex record keeping systems
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, ability to work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Very strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within a small high performing finance team
  • Able to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing and demanding environment while maintaining a "can do" attitude
  • Dependable and reliable, with the ability to plan days off around payroll dates
