Part-time Lecturer - Drama and Screen Studies Program

Mount Allison University
$62,584 - $79,245 a year
Sackville Parish, New Brunswick
Part time

Position description

The Drama and Screen Studies Program invites applications for a part-time stipendiary position to teach SCRN 3991: Introduction to Filmmaking on campus in the fall term (August 15 to December 31) of the 2025-2026 academic year. The anticipated class size is 12 students and consists of three lecture hours per week.

This new offering is designed to give students a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of filmmaking, with an emphasis on creativity, storytelling, and collaboration. Students will work primarily with GoPro cameras, smartphones, basic DSLRs, and professional-grade video editing software like Davinci Resolve.

As this is the first time the course is being offered, the successful candidate will collaborate with the Director of Drama & Screen Studies to shape its structure and content. This role requires innovative and resourceful approaches to teaching filmmaking with minimal equipment. This is a unique opportunity to develop a foundational applied screen production course within a liberal arts environment.

Key responsibilities include the following:
  • Deliver weekly in-person instruction on the fundamentals of filmmaking: development, production, and postproduction.
  • Guide students through individual and collaborative exercises using basic technology
  • Introduce students to basic production workflows and editing software
  • Encourage creative problem-solving and cinematic vision
  • Assess student work and provide constructive feedback
  • Attend and contribute to regular department meetings
Applicants should have the following:
  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) in film studies, fine arts, media arts, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree (MFA or MA) in filmmaking, screen production, or a related field
  • Familiarity: With standard tools and software (e.g. DSLRs, Go-Pros, smartphones, iMovie, DaVinci Resolve)
  • Experience: Teaching or mentoring students at the post-secondary level is an asset
  • Commitment: To fostering creativity, equity, and inclusive learning in a liberal arts context

A letter of application and CV, including the names of three references, should be emailed directly to Dr Sarah Fanning, Director of Drama & Screen Studies [email protected]

Deadline for applications is June 27, 2025
