Overview
We visit local parks between Main St and Renfrew. This is an unlicensed outdoor early learning program for children aged 2.5-5yrs that happens every day regardless of the weather. There is no indoor facility. Our ideal candidate would have a passion for getting children outside and into nature. While outdoor education experience is preferred, it's not mandatory. Being comfortable outside in all weather is more important to us than outdoor experience. We are an inclusive and very supportive work environment that will offer onsite training to the right candidate.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring the safety of the children in the parks.
- Developing emergent curriculum based on the children's interests
- Ability to work confidently alongside Lead Teacher
- Assisting children in connecting with nature via various methods such as plant identification, basic knowledge of local wildlife (birds, insects etc)
- The physical ability to lift 50 pounds
- Risk mitigation and safety evaluations for all parks
Qualifications
- Must be a Canadian citizen or have valid work visa to apply.
- Minimum 2 years of working in a preschool or daycare setting.
- Preference is given to candidates that have had experience teaching in an outdoor setting.
- ECE certification or ECEA is preferred but not necessary (Can be attending school to obtain ECE certification
- Valid CPR
- Must provide a VPD Vulnerable Sector CRC
- Ability to work in an inclusive program that meets the needs of individual children
- Demonstrate strong teamwork skills
- Ability to plan, carry out and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities and experiences for children using modelling, observing, questioning, reflecting, demonstrating and reinforcing techniques
- Knowledge and understanding of the Early Learning Framework and Forest School Philosophy
- Maintains a growth mindset and passion toward student progress
- Demonstrates a high degree of integrity and agency; holds themselves accountable for learning outcomes and advocates for their students
- Facilitates problem-solving, fosters critical thinking skills, and shows a high degree of creative application in the implementation of the forest school philosophy
- Is able to assist in safety management and risk mitigation throughout the program
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $23.00-$26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 per week
