DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary role of the OT/PT Assistant is to implement therapeutic programs for patients as assigned and /or supervised by the Occupational Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist. This includes the management of patient-related equipment and therapeutic tools.
- Able to work effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care
- Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff, students and members of the academic and professional community
- Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care
- Is committed to, and participates in, ongoing quality improvement in the organization
- Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate from a recognized and accredited combined OTA/PTA program (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Ability to modify interventions quickly in accordance to changes in patient status required.
- Ability to carry out directions of therapists.
- Independent decision making skills required.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to function as an effective interdisciplinary team member.
- Willingness to participate/lead health service councils and task groups.
- Motivated to practice in accordance with the mission and vision of hospital/health service.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education and personal development.
- Good work and attendance record required.
- Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care
- Demonstrated commitment to and involvement with own profession (e.g. membership with professional association, etc.) preferred
- Current CPR certification
The primary role of the successful incumbent will be that of a Physiotherapy Assistant, however he/she may be required to perform Occupational Therapy Assistant duties on an as needed basis.
Must be willing to work evenings and/or weekends as directed by the Program.
