Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operations Supervisor to lead our morning shift at our Edmonton recycling facility. This role is critical in ensuring that operations run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with company standards. The successful candidate will manage a team of up to 20 employees, coordinate with maintenance, and ensure the production facility operates in an organized and safe manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, supervise, and motivate a team of up to 20 operations staff to achieve production goals and maintain high safety standards.
- Ensure all team members work safely and return home safely each day, fostering a positive work environment.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily production activities in a 55,000 sq. ft. facility on 5.5 acres of land.
- Operate and supervise use of forklifts, loaders, and other equipment to manage recyclable substrates (plastics, metals, tin, paper).
- Oversee loading, unloading, and processing of materials, including emptying the warehouse as needed.
- Conduct safety meetings, enforce safety policies, and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate production records, complete reports, and conduct employee write-ups when necessary.
- Collaborate with the maintenance department to ensure equipment is serviced and operating effectively.
- Monitor and meet operational timelines, KPIs, and quality standards.
- Support growth and expansion initiatives to improve plant efficiency
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years’ supervisory experience in recycling, waste management, or a related industry.
- Proficient in operating forklifts and loaders, with valid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Strong understanding of KPIs and ability to articulate and act on performance requests.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining a positive and respectful work environment.
- Excellent communication skills; able to articulate instructions and expectations clearly.
- Honest, dependable, and dedicated to achieving operational excellence.
- Resilient and able to handle challenges, feedback, and conflict professionally.
- Adaptable to changing priorities and operational needs.
- Team-oriented and willing to ask for help when necessary.
- Comfortable following established procedures first before suggesting improvements.
- Own reliable transportation to work the early AM shift.
