Some of what you will do:
Drive the planning, execution, and performance analysis of Staples Canada's in-store promotional merchandising program (“off-shelf”). This role bridges data analysis and strategic merchandising by partnering with cross-functional teams—including Merchandising, Supply Chain, and Store Operations—to build impactful programs that increase incremental sales and margin. The Off-Shelf Analyst ensures timely execution, clear communication to stores, and continuous performance improvement through data-driven insights.
Specifically, You Will:
- Work with the merchandising group to develop and evaluate off-shelf items/assortments for each period that will drive incremental sales and margin.
- Determine best display vehicle and merchandising approach for each off-shelf assortment.
- Work closely with store planogram and signage teams to ensure setup instructions are accurate and easy to communicate.
- Assist with coordination of all specialty signing elements for off-shelf programs.
- Review and evaluate all aspects of the off-shelf program to drive price impression as well as incremental sales and margin.
- Partner with supply chain team to ensure optimal quantity of product is in the stores for the beginning and throughout the off-shelf period.
- Work with store projects teams to ensure off-shelf positions for project stores are accurately captured and required product is ordered and delivered.
- Maintain database with the number of promotional positions (pallets, endcaps) for all stores.
- Responsible for managing promo process/workback calendar and holding teams accountable to hit timelines, upcoming deadlines and deliverables.
- Allocate off-shelf programs to stores based on available space and sales velocity.
- Manage the gathering and analysis of off-shelf post-mortem data - both financial information as well as input from the in-store field organization. Translate this into workable opportunities for the following off-shelf period or for the next year. Provide Category Management merchandising teams with recommendations to improve program sales and margin by leveraging current and historical performance data.
Some of what you need:
- University degree or equivalent experience.
- Post-secondary education in Business, Retail Management, Analytics, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities to evaluate sales, margin, and inventory performance; ability to draw insights and support data-driven decisions.
- Experience with retail merchandising, category management, or space planning, including understanding of planograms and promotional strategies.
- Familiarity with data tools such as SQL and Power BI/Tableau is an asset for reporting, trend analysis, and performance tracking. 2–4 years of experience in merchandising, space planning, retail analytics, or a related field.
