Role Purpose: Join our dynamic and fast-paced mortgage team! We're looking for an energetic Mortgage Underwriter who thrives in a busy, exciting environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities. You'll play a crucial role in helping families achieve their homeownership dreams by evaluating mortgage applications, analyzing financial documents, and making critical lending decisions. Korean language proficiency is preferred to better serve our diverse client base in this rewarding and high-energy role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including income verification, credit reports, and financial documentation
- Assess borrower creditworthiness and ability to repay loans based on established underwriting guidelines
- Calculate debt-to-income ratios and loan-to-value ratios to determine loan eligibility
- Verify employment, assets, and other financial information provided by applicants
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies or issues in loan documentation
- Communicate with loan officers, borrowers, and other stakeholders regarding application status and requirements
- Ensure all loans comply with federal, provincial, and company lending regulations
- Maintain detailed documentation of underwriting decisions and rationale
- Meet productivity targets while maintaining high quality standards
- Provide guidance to junior underwriters and support staff as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3 years of mortgage underwriting experience
- Strong understanding of mortgage lending principles, regulations, and compliance requirements
- Proficiency with underwriting software and loan origination systems
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Korean language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing) is strongly preferred
