We are currently looking for a permanent full time Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Clinician to join the Mental Health and Substance Use team based out of the Kelowna Community Health & Services centre in Kelowna, B.C.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a compassionate and skilled clinician with advanced practice-level expertise in substance use and concurrent mental health disorders. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment and is committed to delivering timely, evidence-based care that supports individuals with complex needs across the continuum of services. This person demonstrates clinical excellence in conducting in-depth diagnostic assessments, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and utilizing a variety of therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. The successful candidate is someone adept at collaborating with clients, families, and community partners, advocating for access to supportive resources, and navigating transitions across levels of care. A strong candidate will bring a trauma-informed, recovery-oriented approach, contribute to quality improvement and service planning, and actively engage in mentorship, education, and consultation to elevate team practice and support client-centered outcomes.

What will you work on?

The Substance Use Clinician functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific MHSU multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to ensure that persons experiencing substance use problems/disorders or concurrent substance use and mental health problems have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services.

The Substance Use Clinician provides, at the advanced practice level, assessment, treatment, service coordination and, as required, urgent response to the most complex clients, frequently with co-occurring disorders, who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Substance Use Clinician functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.

Scheduling Information:

Shirt times are days and shift times are from 08:00 to 16:00 hours.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Masters degree from an accredited educational institution in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position.
  • Two years’ recent related experience in an alcohol and drug treatment environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current valid B.C. driver’s license (Class V).
