Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Office Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical office, providing exceptional support to both patients and healthcare professionals. This position requires a blend of administrative skills and knowledge of medical terminology, making it essential for maintaining an efficient and welcoming environment.
Duties/Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized business or community college course in the office/medical administration area.
- Minimum of 1 year experience and/or a suitable combination of education and experience
- Greet patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner at the front desk.
- Manage patient appointments, including scheduling, confirming, and rescheduling as necessary.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and ensure compliance with privacy regulations.
- Assist in the processing of patient intake forms and insurance information.
- Handle phone systems efficiently, addressing inquiries, taking messages, and directing calls appropriately.
- Collaborate with the medical team and office staff to ensure seamless communication and workflow.
- Prepare examination rooms by cleaning and stocking supplies as needed.
- Support administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing office supplies and preparing/distributing meeting minutes.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook), Digital communications/advertising like Canva, social media platforms is considered an asset.
Skills
- Proficiency in administrative tasks within a medical office setting.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems; experience with Accuro and eCharts is a requirement.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology to facilitate effective communication.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Ability to operate phone systems and other office equipment competently.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with patients, families, and team members.
- Knowledge of the mental health and addiction services in Manitoba.
- Demonstrates a commitment to client-centered care, harm reduction and trauma-informed care.
- Knowledge of First Nation culture, customs, values, and traditions.
- Indigenous language skills.
