Position Description
UNIT SUMMARY
The Hamilton Regional Laboratory Medicine Program (HRLMP) is a collaborative program funded and operated jointly by Hamilton Health Sciences and St. Joseph's Hospital. The Program is committed to change and innovation, through education, service and research, to bring the highest quality science into healthcare for the benefit of the community and to participate in the clinical application and interpretation of the science.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Minimum OSMT certified
- Good interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated; able to prioritize activities
- Must be able to use initiative and work unsupervised
- Current experience in Cytopathology
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Practical examination may be part of the interview process
- Preparation of Gynecological and Non-Gynecological specimens
- Understand and perform centrifugation, cytocentrifugation and thin prep
- Staining and coverslipping, both manual and automated
- Matching specimen to requisition and reconciliation of any errors
- Preparation of Reagents
- Retrieval of slides and cell blocks
- Shipping of slides and cell blocks
- Computer entry
- Filing of slides, cell blocks and requisitions
- Equipment maintenance
- Maintenance of reagent and temperature charts
- All other duties as assigned
