The Medical Imaging Clerk/Porter schedules and registers patient procedures for Medical Imaging. Performs porting duties such as transporting patients to and from nursing units. Performs reception and clerical duties including preparing procedural lists, assembling, filing, retrieving and sending images, documents, records and reports.
Responsibilities:
- Schedules patients for Medical Imaging procedures by booking appointments upon receipt of requisitions. Adjusts arrangements in accordance with patient department and hospital requirements. Arranges follow up visits. Liaises with nursing units, doctors’ offices, and other hospitals to confirm appointments and to arrange delivery of patient films and records.
- Performs reception duties such as answering the telephone, taking messages, and referring as appropriate. Greets, escorts, and provides directions to patients and visitors. Informs appropriate staff of patient arrival.
- Performs porting duties such as transporting patients to and from nursing units. Assists the technical staff in transferring and moving patients in accordance with hospital standards including the use of a variety of transfer aids such as transfer belts, mechanical lifts, and slider boards. Maintains the appropriate reserve of mobile oxygen cylinders in the department by contacting Material Services to request replacement. Reports problems or concerns regarding equipment, operations, and patients to the supervisor.
- Completes patient registration documentation and enters data into the computer.
- Receives requests for Medical Imaging procedures. Inputs required information into the computer, assigns identification numbers as required, and prints requisition and identification labels. Compiles relevant patient data for Medical Imaging procedures by assembling identification labels, requisitions, reports, film envelopes, and patient master files. Makes copies of reports as required.
- Responds to requests for patient records, images, and reports by assembling appropriate records, images, and reports and preparing them for mailing. Transmits test results to physicians’ offices as required, according to established procedures. Processes daily procedure lists, department forms, and reports, and distributes them to appropriate areas as required. Locates, retrieves, and forwards files, reports, records and documents in accordance with departmental procedures, ensuring maintenance of record control. Maintains filing system for forms, reports, and other documents.
- Duplicates images with equipment as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience
Grade 12, plus two years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to keyboard at 40 wpm.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
