Objective:

To coordinate OFIFC’s public communications, public relations, public profile, and Social Media activities. This includes working with staff on various communications tasks, such as marketing, public education, and branding activities.


Key Deliverables:

  • To ensure OFIFC’s overall communications and social media needs are addressed and coordinated in a consistent, professional manner and are aligned with OFIFC’s long-range strategic plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Media Relations and Social Media (40%):

  • Co-develop and implement a new Social Media Strategy with Communications and Community Relations Manager
  • Undertakes all aspects of media liaison and OFIFC social media activities including the design of assets.
  • Monitors and analyses the media reports and improves urban Indigenous issue developments and coverage in the media including increasing the visibility of the Friendship Centre movement, individual Friendship Centres, and the OFIFC.
  • Maintains, collects, and formats information for the OFIFC website.
  • Coordinates OFIFC media, public relations, and social media response activities.
  • Stay up to date on current communications trends to analyze metrics, statistics, and data to provide advice on results-based communications approaches.
  • Use social media platforms to bring awareness of the OFIFC and its objectives.

Communications (60%):

  • Co-develop and implement a new Communications Strategy with Communications and Community Relations Manager.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of the public and corporate image of OFIFC including ensuring consistency in OFIFC branding in print or online.
  • Researches, prepares, edits, and produces appropriate OFIFC communications, presentations, interviews, media releases, publications, and communiqués.
  • Maintains a photograph library for OFIFC communications and media activities.
  • Co-develops strategic initiatives to assist workgroups to adhere to in areas of external communications, public awareness, and education campaigns.
  • Coordinates related communications, public relations, corporate communication products and responses on behalf of OFIFC.
  • Provide support in public relations issues and crisis management as needed.
  • Provide support for internal communications, including newsletter maintenance, employee engagement activities, and other related activities.
  • Acts as a brand ambassador for the OFIFC.

Education/Work Experience:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in Communications or a relevant field.
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience in a similar role.
  • Awareness of Indigenous culture; experience working with Indigenous communities an asset.

  • High proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Lightroom, Microsoft Office Suite, web design, and publishing.
  • Understanding of media marketing tools, SEO, and web traffic metrics.
  • Aware of complex historical, economic, political, and social factors that impact urban Indigenous people.
  • Excellent knowledge and management of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Google+, and other social media platforms.
