Material Handler/Packaging Operator

Position Summary
The Material Handler/Packaging Operator is a key contributor who is trained in various stages of the manufacturing process. Responsibilities include receiving raw materials, material handling, and moving product within the plant to the machines. This role demands that both safety and quality are paramount.
Key Accountabilities
- Receive raw materials and store and use raw materials using FIFO
- Match documentation with information on physical raw materials
- Select raw materials from stock to supply the tanks
- Operate forklift to move skids of product
- Assist with inventory management by monitoring stock levels of packaging materials and coordinating with the procurement team to order supplies
- Communicate any shortages or issues with materials to the Production Supervisor
- Operate packaging machinery efficiently and safely to package chemical products according to company standards and production schedules.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify issues to ensure smooth operation of the following: conveyor systems, filling machines, labeling machines, and packaging materials
- Perform quality checks on packaged products to ensure specifications meet compliance with regulatory requirements. Examples include, but are not limited to: caps are tightened to prevent leakage. labels are on straight and in good condition, procedures related to paperwork and quality checks are completed, and products are prepared for shipment by skidding and application of shrink wrap by machine
- Maintain accurate production records, including batch numbers, quantities packaged, and any deviations from standard procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot problems, optimize production processes, and recommend continuous improvement ideas.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to packaging operations, including hazardous materials handling and waste disposal.
- Assist in all other tasks in the department as needed, including filling in for attendance vacancies
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on packaging equipment, including the cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts in conjunction with the Maintenance team
- Help maintain clean and tidy work areas in batching and within the manufacturing facility
- Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance your knowledge of packaging equipment, safety protocols, and chemical handling practices.
- Follow Health & Safety guidelines and other Standard Operating Procedures
- Work in a safe manner and strive for zero work-related incidents
- Understand and follow safety practices/procedures and WHMIS
- Operate Reach Truck and Tow Motor in accordance with training certification guidelines.
- High school graduation diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working in manufacturing; preferred candidates have worked in a similar position related to chemical manufacturing processes, or machine operator roles
- Preferred candidates will have 2+ years of demonstrated experience working in a manufacturing environment in a similar role with previous Tow Motor experience
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety best practices related to Receiving, Warehouse, and Manufacturing environments, with knowledge of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS)
- Reading and math skills for calculating formulas are essential, coupled with a strong attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively, & positively express and identify problems to the Production Manager
- Team player with the willingness to move to different areas of the manufacturing process as needed
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
The position works within the manufacturing and warehouse areas. The environment at times may be noisy and hot during the summer months. There is regular exposure to scents from chemicals. Physical demands of the position require standing and moving product, including physically moving product using push/pulling force and frequent lifting of product. Concentration is needed to operate machinery, Tow Motor, and other equipment.

Pay Range: $21.00 - $21.00 [per hour]
