About Us
Cowichan Valley Co-operative Marketplace (Cow-op) is a non-profit co-operative established in 2014 to promote local food security and support farm viability in the Cowichan Region. Our flagship program, Cow-Op.ca, is a weekly online farmers market that connects local consumers with farms and food producers through a centralized ordering and distribution system.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a creative and self-motivated Marketing Ambassador to help grow our community and promote the Cow-op brand. If you have a passion for local food, storytelling, and digital media—and you want to make a meaningful impact in your community—this is the perfect role for you.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Brand Promotion
- Collaborate with the GM and Marketing Task Force to develop and implement a marketing strategy.
- Design and distribute flyers, postcards, and other branded materials.
- Educate consumers on the benefits of buying local.
- Represent Cow-op at events and markets (occasional weekend work).
Social Media & Content Creation
- Manage Cow-op’s Facebook and Instagram accounts using Meta Business Suite.
- Create engaging content (photos, stories, reels) featuring producers and their products.
- Respond to comments and messages in a timely and friendly manner.
- Schedule and manage boosted posts.
Email Marketing & Communications
- Create and send two weekly email reminders and a monthly newsletter via Mailchimp.
- Collaborate with the team for content ideas and updates.
Producer Relations
- Liaise with local producers to feature new or sale items each week.
- Update sales and featured products using our web platform, Local Food Marketplace.
Media & Public Relations
- Draft and distribute press releases to spotlight Cow-op successes.
- Create content for the Cow-op blog and media updates.
Fundraising & Team Leadership
- Support marketing-related fundraising efforts alongside the Fundraising Committee.
- Collaborate with and delegate tasks to marketing interns as needed.
You’ll Thrive in This Role If You Have:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Marketing or communications experience
- The ability to work independently and take initiative
- Interest in local food systems and community-driven initiatives
- Familiarity with digital tools: Meta Business Suite, Canva, Mailchimp, WordPress, Google Drive/Docs/Sheets
Bonus if you have:
- Experience managing social media accounts for a brand or organization
- Experience working with non-profits or co-ops
- Photography or videography skills
