SUMMARY:


The Manager of Culture & Wellness Services (MCWS) is responsible for the daily management of the Wellness Services Team and the coordination of culture and wellness programs and services. The position is responsible for enhancing the capacity of internal and external stakeholders to address culture and wellness-related issues that include but are not limited to traditional healing, family and gender-based violence, addiction, healthy living, chronic health conditions, senior care, and mental health and wellness programming, while maintaining compliance with legislative standards.


The Manager of Culture and Wellness Services must possess the ability to supervise and motivate a team of fifteen to twenty (15 to 20) direct reports to achieve and exceed their goals, and be able to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports. The Manager of Culture and Wellness Services will further assist in recruitment and selection of program staff needs, oversee daily administration needs including scheduling and expenditure oversight, and ensure employees have clear goals and are aware of expectations.


The Manager of Culture and Wellness Services will coordinate and support all aspects of cultural knowledge transfer and planning within TBIFC and will coordinate access to traditional knowledge exchange, traditional teachings and ceremonies to meet the cultural capacity needs of the Friendship Centre, promoting cultural awareness, safety and competency, and promoting healing and reconciliation.


QUALIFICATIONS
:


  • Preferred Community College Diploma, University Degree or equivalent in Social Service field with a minimum of a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience and/ or supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated administrative management with the ability to supervise.
  • Knowledge and experience of social service theories and practices with a trauma-informed lens, emerging trends in social services, determinants of health, and supportive, preventative programming.
  • Strong awareness of and appreciation for traditional Indigenous culture and the social reality that Indigenous people experience in an urban setting; knowledge of an Indigenous language(s) considered an asset.
  • Significant knowledge of the recent and historical intergenerational trauma that Indigenous people experience and the connection to psychological, physiological, social and spiritual impacts of trauma.
  • Expertise and understanding of the principals involved to provide culturally grounded trauma-informed care and wise practices within service delivery, continuum of care, and group programming.
  • Strong knowledge of services available for urban Indigenous people who are seeking health and wellness services, including mental health, nutrition, violence-prevention, addictions, and traditional healing.
  • Experience leading educational and cultural workshops and traditional knowledge sharing.
  • Understanding of resource and fiscal management.
  • Knowledge of and exposure to a range of human resources activities, including: recruitment, orientation, performance management, schedule management, employee relations / communications.
  • Experience in program management, supervision, operations, administration and budgeting.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • High level of administrative skills including data management and personnel management.
  • Models’ appropriate communication with staff; ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
  • Excellent conflict mediation and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours; including evenings and weekends.
  • Current First Aid / CPR Certificate and Safe Food Handling certification is an asset.
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Clearance is a condition of employment.

  • Trauma-Based Practice Informed – Able to incorporate a trauma-informed approach to recognize and respond to all forms of trauma and the necessity of supporting Indigenous people in a culture of tradition and safety in their healing journey.

  • Leadership and Management Competency – Able to incorporate a respectful and positive approach to leadership and management including a focus on the following competencies: Accountability; Coaching; Communication; Conflict Management; Continuous Improvement; Health and Safety Leadership; Managing Performance; Professionalism; Resource and Fiscal Management; Results Orientation; and Strategic Thinking.

Salary: $82,500 per annum
