Job Summary
Reporting to the Director, Major Tower-Terminal Operations, the Manager supports and sets direction for the Major Tower-Terminal Operations through managing all front-line Terminal Control Unit (TCU) and Control Tower operations and provides project leadership for all related projects including major Airspace Modernization projects. The Manager is responsible for all customer communications and acts as the communication point of focus with airport stakeholders, operations, and multiple project stakeholders.

The role is accountable for the cost-effective utilization of resources including material, financial, and human resources. The role manages a team of Tower and Terminal Air Traffic Controllers and Operational Support Specialists to ensure full ongoing implementation of Company IFR and VFR service delivery standards and procedures. Activities will frequently place the Manager in situations requiring sensitivity and discretion while establishing current and immediate operational requirements, organizing resources accordingly, and directing corrective action.

In this role you will:
  • Manage the Major Tower and TCU operational initiatives and ensure operational safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.
  • Be fully accountable for operational staff comprised of teams of professional specialists, including the responsibility to select and allocate priorities, assess deliverables, establish schedules, authorize leave, schedule overtime, provide guidance and coaching, and take corrective action as required.
  • Provide leadership for major capital projects as well as participate in the establishment of the project lifecycle and service standards monitoring of operational performance.
  • Effectively communicate with multiple stakeholders and act as the principal point of contact for operational and project related issues identified by customers, employees, and other stakeholders and periodically provide reports to the Director, Major Tower-Terminal Operations.
  • Manage a segment of the Tower and ACC operational budget.
What you bring:
Education:
  • Successful completion of secondary school.
  • Experience as an Air Traffic Controller (Airport or Terminal) is considered an asset.
Experience:
  • Significant experience as an ATC Supervisor or Manager of a significant ATC project.
  • Leader of technical and operational staff.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience in maintaining relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Financial budgeting, forecasting, and reporting experience.
Knowledge & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the certification for ATC airport/terminal operations.
  • Knowledge of operational policies, standards, procedures, and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of the technical infrastructure of the Air Navigation System.
  • Knowledge of aviation and industry trends to meet the evolutionary changes and improvements to the automated environment.
  • Knowledge of Human Resources policies, procedures, and practices (e.g.; collective agreements, team effectiveness, etc.)
  • Good understanding of operational training needs and delivery.
  • Knowledge of ICAO and body of rules and regulations with emphasis on a designated FIR.
  • Proficient in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Ability to provide project management leadership, authority, and accountability.
  • Ability to monitor performance and motivate employees and contractors.

Working Conditions:
