The Professional Practice Office at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is seeking a full-time, permanent Manager of Interprofessional Practice and Education, reporting to the Director of Nursing. The successful candidate will oversee professional practice and interprofessional education initiatives as assigned by the Director of Nursing. He/she will also supervise Nurse Educators aligned with CAMH’s clinical programs and CAMH projects. The successful candidate must bring a strong foundation in clinical practice education and professional leadership. The candidate will demonstrate commitment to client-centered care, family engagement and interprofessional collaboration.

The Manager of Interprofessional Practice and Education will oversee and lead the continuous improvement of professional practice processes including professional development, professional standards and practice evaluation. This includes the review, design and communication of a set of integrated standards and competencies to support clinical orientation of new clinical staff, ongoing clinical education of interprofessional teams and individualized learning plans as needed. These CAMH-wide educational standards will be in keeping with legislative and professional requirements, national/provincial standards and CAMH policies and procedures to enhance patient and staff safety, as well as best patient outcomes. The Manager of Interprofessional Practice and Education will participate incorporate committees and lead working groups to advance high standards in mental health and addictions clinical care and documentation, as well as optimizing staff engagement in clinical education at CAMH. They will oversee the standardized design, delivery and evaluation of: classroom- and unit-based interprofessional clinical orientation; education related to assessment, care planning, and care delivery practices; educational support for clinical documentation; performance-related learning plans; and other clinical education and practice related projects as assigned. The Manager of Interprofessional Practice will also provide oversight of education and discipline-specific support required for specially funded initiatives, such as the Nursing Graduate Guarantee Initiative, the Late Career Initiative, and other initiatives as assigned. They will supervise the Nurse Educators in the development of innovative educational approaches to enhance learning uptake of interprofessional clinicians.

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing and working collaboratively with Advanced Practice Clinical Leaders, clinical operational leaders, the Manager of Interprofessional Practice and Education will identify strengths and gaps in the demonstration of professional competencies as they relate to CAMH-wide standards or specialized clinical services within programs. This may include auditing or reviewing clinical dashboards, clinical documentation, incident analyses, clinical tracers, performance in accreditation required organizational practices, etc. The Manager of Interprofessional Practice and Education will be responsible for maintaining effective relationships with all stakeholders to advance education and continuous quality improvement in patient and staff safety as well as clinical corporate initiatives. The Manages of Interprofessional Practice and Education will provide leadership in fostering a healthy work environment that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and high standards of professional practice.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a Master’s Degree in Nursing. He/she will have a minimum of five years of clinical experience and progressive management/leadership experience. Proven ability to develop and implement professional development and clinical education programs. The successful candidate should be proficient in the operation of the electronic health record and in overseeing the adherence by staff to documentation standards. Evidence of continuing professional development in the field of mental health and addiction education would be an asset. Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing is preferred. Candidates must be eligible for a cross-appointment with the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing, University of Toronto.


Candidates should have experience working collaboratively across disciplines, departments and services; and a proven ability to establish positive relationships with professional practice, clinical operations and other corporate leaders. They must demonstrate knowledge of professional practice standards, documentation standards, professional college regulations, accreditation and other national/provincial standards that can guide a CAMH-wide approach to clinical practice and education. Candidates must demonstrate analytical, conceptual and strategic planning skills, as well as excellent communication skills (oral and written). Candidates must also possess excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy to work with diverse teams and stakeholders and understand how issues of stigma and cultural diversity impact on care delivery, professional practice and education. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is an asset.
