Overview:
Working within a small team, the candidate will focus on the three pillars of this position: annual industry events, marketing & communications, and technologies/digitalization. This role will help build CIGBA/DCI’s future image within the Canadian independent grocery industry while maintaining revenues that provide value to both its Members and Partners. The role includes managing and operating within related budgets and working closely with the President & Director of Operations. Furthermore, the candidate will need to demonstrate leadership, autonomy, creativity, a sense of teamwork, and a passion for independent operators within the Canadian grocery industry.
Responsibilities:
Events (30%)
- Manage current events including annual Business Summit, annual Star Awards Gala, charity networking event (i.e golf tournament)
- Implement new ideas related to current or future events to increase reach and revenue (event sponsorship, advertisement etc.)
- Develop new events or initiatives as needed and aligned to CIGBA and/or DCI
- Secure event sponsorships and maintain existing sponsorship relations
- Manage all events and communications budgets with the President & Director of Operations
- Prepare copywriting, speeches, write ups, and press releases for events and associated websites
- Design all marketing, banners, sponsorship visuals, digital slides and print media as needed for events and associated websites
Communications and Marketing (40%)
- Manage, develop and implement current and new external communication tools impacting the image of CIGBA/DCI and the quality of its communications, promotions, and programs
- Develop and maintain a communications schedule, implementing new strategies to increase efficiencies and participation in CIGBA/DCI’s various programs
- Execute daily communications as needed to Members, Partners and/or industry
- Maintain the CIGBA/DCI quarterly newsletter, its advertisement contracts, and acquire new advertising revenue for upcoming newsletters
- Maintain a pulse on the industry by following, interacting, and creating content on our various social media accounts (Facebook, X, LinkedIn)
- Maintain the company’s master database, listservs, and files
- Maintain the company’s intranet portal for Members including all relevant updates
- Maintain the company’s intranet portal for Vendors including account logins, uploading documents and media
- Maintain the company’s two websites: www.distributioncanada.ca and www.cigba.ca
- Plan, design and execute various Partner promotions, contests and engagement
- Develop good relationships with all Members, Partners and industry personnel
Technologies (20%)
- Maintain existing or new email marketing platform to collect user data and reporting
- Assist the President & Director of Operations in the development of different business tools, apps, and integrations that will increase program participation and results
- Assist in the development of new Member services that will provide value to our Members and in the industry (recruiting, retention, information, education and resources, etc.)
- Connect with IT, domain hosts, and web masters as needed
- Coordinate monthly deals and buys within our ordering software and execute via developed tools
Assisting The President & Director of Operations (10%)
- Update and prepare presentation decks, and/or digital slides
- Travel to nearby industry conferences and tradeshows to keep a pulse on marketing and creative strategies
- Sit in on any meetings or conferences if the President and Director of Operations is not available
- Maintain and review all Co-operative Trade Agreements, digital consent forms, and company profile
- Assist the president in various functions as needed
Required Skills:
Competency in project and event management
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, fluency in French is a plus
- Creative mindset, with competency in graphic design
- Business and networking capabilities
- Competency in communications, negotiations and presentations
- Competency in web, social media, SEO and digital management
- Autonomous and results oriented
- Flexible and ready to learn and assume responsibilities
- Proficient in: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, Internet Based Applications.
- Experience with an order management software is a plus. Familiarity with Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, and other Google-based applications
