DS CPA Professional Corporation is a dynamic, client-centered public accounting firm with offices in Smiths Falls and North York (Toronto). We serve a diverse base of owner-managed businesses, professionals, and not-for-profits, offering audit, tax, compilation, and advisory services with a focus on quality, communication, and client care.
We’re seeking an experienced Manager or Senior Accountant to lead our Smiths Falls office, while also supporting Toronto-based engagements. This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role, contribute to firm-wide quality and growth, and mentor a dedicated team across two locations.
At DS CPA, there is a clear and intentional path forward for professionals who demonstrate leadership, technical strength, and a commitment to client service—whether it’s advancing to senior management or earning equity in the firm.
What You’ll Do
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, offering proactive and tailored advice across a variety of engagements.
- Manage client communication year-round to ensure clarity, responsiveness, and long-term relationship value.
- Coordinate closely with both local clients and Toronto-based clients where support is required.
Engagement Execution & Review
- Oversee and review audit, review, and compilation engagements—with a strong command of ASPE, ASNPO, CSRS 4200, and audit methodology.
- Perform and/or supervise fieldwork, risk assessments, internal control testing, and substantive audit procedures.
- Manage quality control across all engagement types, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to SoQM standards.
Tax Compliance & Planning
- Prepare and review corporate (T2) and personal (T1) tax returns.
- Assist with year-end tax planning and CRA audit/review correspondence.
- Coordinate planning discussions with partners for more complex clients.
Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead and supervise the Smiths Falls team, and provide technical and review support to staff in Toronto.
- Mentor junior staff, lead performance evaluations, and support career development.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and technically strong team culture.
Operational Oversight
- Oversee scheduling, resource planning, and workflow management to meet client deadlines and internal quality benchmarks.
- Contribute to strategic decisions, budgeting, and financial oversight of the Smiths Falls office.
- Support partner-level initiatives related to profitability, growth, and operational improvement.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in public accounting with file review and client-facing responsibility.
- Strong background in audit, tax, and compilations, with hands-on engagement leadership.
- Proven ability to coach and manage teams, supervise file preparation, and ensure quality deliverables.
- Experience using Caseware (Caseview and/or Jazzit), TaxPrep, and cloud bookkeeping tools (QBO, Xero, QB Desktop).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work on-site at Smiths Falls office 3+ days per week, with occasional travel to Toronto.
Preferred:
- CPA designation (preferred but not required—strong senior accountants with relevant experience will be considered).
- Familiarity with not-for-profit audits, government funding compliance, and CRA My Business Account tools.
- Bookkeeping experience or fluency in reviewing year-end working papers prepared from client records.
