POSITION SCOPE
Canada Malting is seeking a 3rd or 4th year electrical apprentice to join our malting plant. Located in the heart of Thunder Bay, our malting facility utilizes various industrial equipment in conjunction with our highly skilled employees to ensure quality malt is produced and delivered to our customers locally and worldwide. This opportunity for a 3rd or 4th year apprentice will allow the apprentice to learn the specialized and unique equipment that allows a trades person the ability to gain knowledge and insight of many aspects of the trade. We offer a 4-10hour day shift and a one week on call every 5-6 weeks working schedule that allows a great work-life balance.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Safely maintain equipment, perform repairs and preventative maintenance in a fast-paced environment
- Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment
- Safely complete assigned preventative maintenance tasks
- Perform all work in accordance with quality standards and established safety procedures
- Ensure all work complies with Ontario Electrical Safety code
- Recommend improvements to equipment and processes
- Help fabricate necessary supports and brackets.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of all plant lighting
- Assist in maintaining PLC and SCADA programs
- Interpret electrical blueprints and schematics with guidance
- Install or replace electrical field devices (i.e., Motors, sensors, controllers, PLC cards, cables, circuit breakers, fuses, actuators, variable frequency drives etc.) with supervision
- Maintain necessary housekeeping tasks.
- Work in a team-oriented, unionized environment
- Registered Apprentice (3rd or 4th year) in the Industrial Electrician (442A) or Construction and Maintenance Electrician (309A) trade
- Experience working in a safety sensitive position
- Excellent communication skills
- Motivated to achieve high-quality standards of working
- Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and willingness to ask question
- In good standing with Skilled Trades Ontario
- PPE required in all work environments.
- Shift work required.
- Some positions require outdoor work.
- Indoor work environments can vary between wet, dusty, cold, hot and high noise conditions.
- Work around automated equipment.
