Your Contribution
We are seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician / Apprentice / Red Seal to join our sawmill operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in the sawmill to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation. This position will be based in Madawaska at our Murray Brothers Lumber Company Division.
Compensation – Your compensation will be negotiated during the interview process and is dependent upon candidate experience and qualifications. This position also offers a comprehensive benefits package.
Work Life Ballance – Monday-Thursday: 6am to 3:30pm / Friday 6am-2:30pm
Responsibilities
- Perform all tasks in accordance with established Safe Work Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, hot work permits and lock out tag out procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Keep detailed maintenance records and update logs.
- Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work on all equipment at the sawmill, including but not limited to edgers, trim saws, resaw, head saw, and debarkers.
- Perform clean up of work areas, including inside the mill, chipper, on the boardway, and in the basement
- Assist in capital projects and continuous improvement work at both mills
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on sawmill equipment including conveyors, saws, debarkers, kilns, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical failures or issues in equipment.
- Work closely with mill operators to identify problems and optimize machine performance.
- Assist in equipment installations, upgrades, and plant shutdowns.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives relating to the performance of the sawmills, planers, stackers and kilns, including installing new equipment, modifying existing equipment, and renovating facilities.
- Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and efficient manner on an ongoing basis and inventories of spare parts are organized and maintained
- Ensures that activities are performed in accordance to established processes as well as internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, fire protection
- Collect and monitor operating data in order to identify opportunities to reduce downtime, increase efficiency, increase production, and improve product quality
- Available to work overtime outside of shift hours and occasional weekends
- Be available for annual maintenance work on scheduled shutdown weeks (i.e., August Shutdown, November Shutdown).
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
The following criteria are the minimum qualifications required for this position. Training in some or all of the following fields:
- Millwrighting and Machining
- Welding and Fabrication
- Electrical
- PLC Programming
- Process Engineering
- Saw Filing
Experience in some or all of the following fields:
- 2 years, or more, in a similar position within a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Other important characteristics include the following:
- Demonstrates a high degree of safety consciousness: awareness of hazards and potential hazards and is diligent about adherence to health and safety procedures and practices
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic including the ability to recognize and react to urgent situations
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
- Strong communication both written and verbal
- Flexibility to work overtime as required
- Valid driver’s license
- Takes pride in their attendance record
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude
- Self-starter with the ability to identify priorities
- Lift up to 50lbs
