Secure a spot on our team where you will put all of your Locksmith knowledge and expertise to work. Everyday will be different as you maintain and repair various locking and security devices for doors, windows and office equipment on a variety of different facilities. Duties will include:
What will you do?
- Repair, replace or adjust damaged or defective components of doors
- Maintain, repair and install all types of locks, including keyless entry locks, door closers and emergency exit devices
- Change lock key combinations by inserting new pins into locks
- Design master key systems for City facilities
- Replace hinges and re-aligning doors
- Install, maintain and repair electric strikes and electronic security hardware
- Service and change combinations on safe and vault doors
- Operate a van to perform scheduled preventative and unscheduled maintenance work in various City locations
- Review plans for new facilities and provide recommendations on lock standards
- Perform all work in a safe manner in compliance with the Building Maintenance Safety Handbook
- Perform other duties as required
- Grade12 or equivalent
- Certified Journeyperson Locksmith
- Licensed under the Alberta Security Services and Investigators Act (SSIA)
- Eligible to hold a Pick License issued under Section 353 of the Criminal Code of Canada
Assets:
- Minimum 5 years of recent consecutive experience in this trade
Skills required for success:
- Good understanding of basic Locksmith practices and procedures
- Good understanding of Alberta Building and Fire Codes and well as municipal security standards
- Demonstrated skills in the use and care of tools required to perform work assignments
- Ability to work independently, managing daily assignments including the purchasing of materials
- Excellent interpersonal customer service skills
- Capable of understanding and carrying out verbal and written instructions
- Skilled in understanding blueprints and job specifications
- Good mathematical ability
- Mechanical ability along with good hand-eye coordination with small intricate parts
- Considerable knowledge of computer related systems
- Committed to continual learning and process improvements
- Capable of collaborating effectively with other team members and trades to coordinate work

Conditions of Employment:
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel toed boots, is a requirement for this position
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
