The ideal candidate will be responsible for transporting goods and materials safely and efficiently within designated routes. This role requires a strong understanding of commercial driving, freight handling, and the operation of heavy equipment. The Local Driver will play a critical role in ensuring timely deliveries while maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles to transport goods to various locations within the local area.
- Load and unload freight, ensuring proper handling and securing of materials during transit.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure they are in safe operating condition.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including logs of mileage, fuel usage, and any incidents that occur during transport.
- Collaborate with warehouse staff to coordinate deliveries and pickups efficiently.
- Adhere to all traffic laws and company policies regarding safety and vehicle operation.
- Assist with basic automotive repairs as needed to ensure vehicle reliability.
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial driving with a valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle class being operated.
- Familiarity with freight handling procedures and regulations is essential.
- Experience operating forklifts and other heavy equipment is highly desirable.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic automotive repairs is a plus.
