Lead Hand/Winter Equipment Operator - St. Clair

Hours of Work: 80 hours bi-weekly
Shift Work Required: Shift work may be required
Rate of Pay: $33.50 per hour

The start date will follow the selection process.

Characteristic Duties: Under the general supervision of a Foreperson.

1. Responsible for overseeing the activities of a crew engaged in minor construction and maintenance projects.
2. Required to do light work along with overseeing the crew.
3. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
4. Perform other related duties as required.

NOTE: This classification automatically converts to a Winter Control Position for the Winter Control Period in accordance with the terms and conditions outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade XII) Education.
• Minimum of five (5) years satisfactory related experience.
• Must be capable of overseeing a crew on maintenance and minor construction.
• Must have proven ability to operate efficiently, all types of small equipment employed on minor construction and maintenance projects, such as tapping equipment, compressors, compaction equipment, etc.
• Must be able to exercise sound judgement in cases of emergency.
• Must be able to effectively complete C.M.M.S. Crew Cards.
• Demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, staff and outside agencies in a courteous and effective manner.
• Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
• Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
• May require the use of a CGS vehicle on CGS business. Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence and have an acceptable driving record.

Development opportunity rate of pay: $31.83 per hour. The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced rate until the minimum qualifications have been met.
